Tikka Arctic

It's a seriously cool and well thought out rifle for the intended purpose, but is priced too high for me. It would just be a range toy and fantasy gun for me. I can't see open sights well anymore, and my 20" FL stocked Sako in .308 does it all for me. Yea, it wasn't cheap back in the day either. :)

I don't really see the allure of the iron sights on this rifle. It's a jazzed up CTR, and the CTR is such an accurate rifle that you really need a scope to wring out it's full potential. Iron sights? For it's intended purpose: sure I can see some value, for most of us who would shoot it on a square range, or at least not in the preservation of life in the frozen backcountry: meh. I'd rather have a CTR and a Ruger GSR for slightly less money than just the Tikka Artic.

That gun also comes in a "kit" which includes a hard case and a bunch of other stuff with it. Pretty sure most of them will end up with scopes on and the iron sights are back up sights for when your gun falls out of your Dog Sled or Snowmobile and breaks your scope. They supposedly are getting more for the money than just the bare gun.

Those guys up in the far North have the internet just like we do and they are not completely isolated like they were 40 years ago. I think their equipment is just as up to date as ours in the warmer zones is, and I would bet that everyone of those guns ends up with a decent scope mounted on it the day after it shows up. They are not stupid and realize they need a scope to shoot seals and other small game at greater distances and get hits than with iron sights. Also they realize the importance of shot placement probably better than we do as they are eating all the meat they shoot and don't want to waste any of it to poor shot placement.

Those guns with a scope are easily 600 yard guns and easily at least 300 on Moose or Caribou. You really need a scope to shoot at those distances and get good shot placement.

Note: the Ranger Logo on the stock of this orange version. I was to understand that they were going to be Red Laminate to match the Red Cap and Hoodie that is the Ranger's "uniform."

Here's a pic with the Minister of the Military holding one with a Ranger on either side with an Orange one and a #4 Mk1*. The Orange version is definitely higher visibility.
