I think I would have opted for the lighter but still rigid Tikka polymer stock over the heavier laminated version

I suspect the reason they went with a heavier laminated stock is that the plastic stock had lowered durability in extreme cold.

If I routinely had a rifle out in below-zero conditions, I can guarantee it would not be a plastic stock. :)

CF designation will be the C-19. First contract will be test units mfgr by Sako for field eval/refinement. The iron sights are probably a Cdn mfgr design. Volume production will be mfgr by Colt Canada under license from Sako. We don't yet know if the licensing agreement prohibits non-military contract sales once the 6500 unit contract is delivered over the next few years. Even if they can sell to civilians, I would expect the pricing will be much higher. ($500 hammer military contract syndrome).

I don't believe any of the other COTS mfgr would license the production rights to Colt Canada. That little journey delayed advancing to the next phase by several years :-(

Big thread on the Canadian Ranger Rifle Replacement program on the Canadian Gun Nuts message board...

Bigger bolt handle, larger triggerguard, two-stage trigger, 3-position safety, protected iron sights, that laminated stock.
