Tikka T3 Problems

Beretta is fixing the problem. I see no reason for the complaint. It isn't like it is hunting season anyway.
Not all of us use our bolt guns for hunting

+1

Besides, if they really knew what was wrong, they would have fixed it the first time I sent it back.

Buying a rifle that is made in the USA wouldn't guarantee you would have got it fixed any faster

First of all, let me say thanks for your long and thoughtful reply. I appreciate it. :)

The main reason for me staying domestic (now) is so the parts are at least in the same country; I can do simple parts-changes myself. E.g. extractor drop in replacments, ejector replacements, etc.

This was part of the draw for me to get an AR-15. Parts for it are about as common as can be, here.

Turns out, they have the rifle and are waiting on parts until at least 4-26. So, by the time I get my rifle back, presumably sometime in May at the earliest, it will have been in limbo for 4+ months.

Update: Wow, I am really glad Scheels took care of me. I was curious as to the status of this rifle, so I checked on Beretta's online system. (Credit where its due; their system is nice.)

The recalcitrant Tikka is still waiting on parts, but they updated the estimated date to 6-27! This will make it a full 6 months now, with July being the soonest now.

Wow, I am seriously unimpressed by Beretta. :uhoh: Prospective Tikka buyers, take note.

In good news, the DPMS is accurate and runs like a top; 120 rounds so far (with no problems whatsoever) and grouped 1.25" with the first & only load I tried. The brass acuumulates in a neat little pile. :)

Glad to hear you got your issue resolved in a manner that makes you happy. I would surely be upset to be stuck in that situation....waiting 6 months for parts to fix a gun that's currently still in production is absurd to me

I'm glad I'm not the only one JoeMal.

I was talking about it with the wife and asked her: If we bought a brand new Refrigerator, and it didn't work right; and they made us wait 6 months for replacement parts, and in the meantime we don't have the refrigerator, how would you take it?

Same analogy with a washing machine, bicycle, or any durable consumer good for that matter.

Apparently guns are on some kind of pedestal; because there are some people that accept this as the norm.

In other news, I tried some other loads in my DPMS. Round count is up to 170 with zero problems of any sort. It liked 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips over Varget and sent 5 shot groups into 3/4" at 100 yards. Twice. :)

Sweet man awesome to hear about your DPMS. Keep it lubed up and the ammo coming! Sounds like you've moved on...and with good reason!

I signed up to THR because of this post and anothers similar. I thought I was loosing my mind until I read the posts of folks having the same issues as I and getting the same results from Beretta. Fact is, I too have a T3 Varmint in 223 that was purchase new back in 2005. During break-in with factory ammo, it would eject about 30% of the time at best. I sent it back to Beretta and, like others have mentioned, got the very impersonable response: "Could not duplicate customer's...bla, bla, bla." (Hey - at least custormer service has been consistant over the years!) Anyway, I went back to range with variety of factory ammo and had same results. Use any factory ammo you please, eject with all your might or say a little prayer after each shot but the above results will repeat. I gave up trying...until now. I would like to turn this single shot into the repeater it was originally designed to be. Any suggestions outside of driving it into the ground and using it as a tomato plant stake would be greatly appreciated.

I have a tikka T3 in 22-250...no problems, it shoots well, really it shoots very well. But I just don't like how it feels so cheap. I posted about it here:

If i had one having the same problems as you guys...I'd youtube the problem. Bring a recorder to the range and record the flaw. Afterwards, others can look at it and decide if it's operator error, a design flaw (ie intuitively I wonder if it's something to do with a short action round in a long action rifle), scope clearance issues, or ammo issues.

Just a thought.

Are all of these jamming Tikkas 223? Got to realize that this action was designed for the 30-06 and adapted to other rounds. I have never heard or seen a bigger case jam in a Tikka. I suppose it happens? I'm not sure this is a good platform for that round?

It's not the case on this one. We (The gunstore mgr. and I) compared it side-by-side with another identical specimen, and you could see the difference in the how it held and ejected the brass. The store's "copy" worked flawlessly, like you would expect, and mine wouldn't.

Thought I'd bring up a quick update; my DPMS is over 600 rounds with absolutely no problems of any kind whatsoever. And accurate. :) Lovin' it.
