Lots of folks complain about lack of involvement of kids, but the real issue is, what are you doing about it? Face it, if kids don't get involved, all us graybeards are going to shuffle off this mortal coil and black powder shooting sports will diminish even further. So posted on other sites-

Time is getting near for the Basic Muzzleloading Class to be held at Camp Raven Knob in NC by the Yadkin Valley Rangers.

To become a NRA certified Muzzleloading Instructor, you must complete 3 classes- Basic Muzzleloading, Basic Instructor, Muzzleloading Instructor. There is no shortcut to this certification, hence it's not a commonly found one. If you want to ever work with most youth organizations in black powder, you must have this certification. I can't stress enough how important it is for adults to get involved with kids. Many on this and other black powder boards whine about the status of our sport, but the real question is what do you plan to do about it?

Even if you are already a long time muzzleloading/black powder person, you still have to go through the courses to be certified. The course is interesting, shooting is fun, and you'll meet other black powder enthusiasts and have opportunities to network you would otherwise not have.

Please reply by email as time is getting short and we have logistics to get settled soon.

Kicking this back up to the top. Help prevent liberals, take a kid to the range today.

I’m getting my yayhoos out. There are 2 youth 22s and now a youth 410 to go with them. No luck on front stuffers for the youngsters yet, but there’s time. My 9yr old can outshoot me with the pistols that she is physically large enough for too. I’m proud of my crew.

Add to that a nephew who hunts with me and my dad, and I think we are doing our share within the family. The way things are these days I wouldn’t know about going outside of the family much.

Can't say I've made any converts yet but I've introduced my fair share of fellow 20-something-year olds to the joys of black powder. Maybe a couple more trips to the range will convince them that this smokeless powder thing is just a fad.

- Signed, a smoke cloud-loving youngster doing his best to make sure there's more of us.

The kids shoot bp but they really enjoy high power and competition. I can’t blame them, that’s great stuff too, but bp in any and all forms is my first shooting love. One of my great granddaughters shares the gene. She just loves the boom of a Colts .44!
