I've just installed a Timney Calvin Elite 2-stage trigger on my Remington 700 (which was quick and easy to do) but am having trouble with the actual setting of the trigger. The version i received was the 8oz/16oz (first/second stage respectively) but found that I couldn't feel the first stage at all and just the pull of the trigger. I'm more used to ~2.5lbs so I increased the trigger pull according to the instructions.

After adjusting trigger pull, I dry fired a few more times and still cannot feel the first stage. At the moment it feels more similar to a single stage trigger with a lot of flop. I haven't touched the other two screws yet as I'm not 100% on what they do (an annotated diagram would have helped).

Does anyone here use a Calvin Elite 2-stage trigger and have any experience in setting this up? The only instructions for "fettling" I can find are related exclusively to the single stage Calvin Elite.

FYI - I'm based in the UK so it's a bit expensive to ship the trigger back to Timney and/or place phone calls to them. I've e-mailed them for tech support and am currently awaiting feedback but I'd like to see if other people are having the same trouble as I am.

OK so case closed. I e-mailed Timney tech support and had a response which fixed my problem. Surprisingly, the instructions are wrong because the sear engagement screw isn't as per the supplied diagram. My diagram below shows what each screw adjusts - according to the instructions the lone screw on the rear of the trigger adjusts the sear engagement.

You can only adjust the first and second stage so far. Mine came set up as 8 oz and 16 oz respectively but these are too light for me. My trigger pull gauge hasn't arrived yet so it's currently set up on "feel" compared to other triggers. The first stage can only be adjusted so much until the transition to the second stage feels "gritty" so I just backed off a small amount so that it was nice and crisp. The second stage only requires a slightly higher amount of force until it breaks nice and clean.

It's a shame such a nice trigger is let down by the poor instructions. Hopefully, others who are in the same predicament to me can find this post and will help them out.
