Does any one know what the laws are in tennesee regarding gun carry in vehicles? I will be spending a week in nashville soon and will be taking my gun. Thanks.
Handgun permit holders: Carry as you wish, open or concealed. (Concealed is preferred.) In the car; glove compartment, trunk, under seat, loaded, unloaded, whatever.
Non-handgun permit holders: Weapon(s) placed where not in reach. (For example, in the trunk.) Ammo must be transported separate from the firearm(s).
Long guns: I think all long guns must be unloaded and treated as a non-permit holder and a handgun. (Firearm out of reach, ammo separate.)
Unless something has changed recently... in Tennessee you can't CCW in a restaurant that serves ANY alcohol!! (That means most of your finer establishments!)
Just to elaborate; you may not carry in an establishment that serves alcohol for consumption on the premise. (example: Bars, Resturants, Sporting events, concerts, etc...) You may carry in an establishment that sells alcohol not for consumption on the premise. (Grocery stores, stop 'n robs....I mean.... gas stations, etc...)
[small rant]It's already against the law to carry a loaded weapon if consuming alcohol. (Just ask Steve McNair, the Titan QB) Why can't I, who is usually the designated driver, carry my gun? I don't drink in public places anyway, dammit!! [/small rant]
