Well guys, here's that grip safety problem Essex 01/06 - 08/06. Works as advertised and is nicely accurate. As you can tell, it's a plain Jane 1911A1 with mostly GI parts. I did put standard wood grips instead of "bake-O-Lite" grips because it fills the hand better helping control. The simple words of " the grip safety stops the trigger from moving rearward until depressed" was the ticket for me to understand (geesh). Since the arm of the grip safety is recessed in the frame, it's tough to witness the contact areas. That was accomplished by putting HOT RED fingernail polish on the stirrup of the trigger, marking the arm of the grip safety showing me what was going on. After welding the arm of the grip safety and re-shaping it, I stoned the contact surfaces with 400grit mould maker stone to smooth the action out, and then super-blued it. This is by far the most accurate and smooth 1911A1 I've ever had the pleasure of using. Too bad it took me so long to aquire the knowlege for the fix, but the end results are well worth it. It's pretty bad when my 1911 is more accurate than most of the revolvers I had owned in the past. Can you build a GOOD 1911???YES you can! Again...Thank you guys for having the patients to deal with me and thank GOD I have enough brains to utilize that information and apply it correctly.
