6-gunfun,

Here a couple of suggestions for excellent handguns that your father could buy for you to learn on, and then give to you when you reach lawful age to own in your state:

http://www.summitgunbroker.com/4046.html - S&W 4046, which, as the listing states, are all stainless steel, double action only, 3rd Gen Smiths. At $295, in that condition, they're a steal. With its widespread acceptance .40 S&W ammo can be found all over the US, and is only slightly more expensive than 9mm. Those 3rd Gen S&Ws are excellent firearms that have always been a little underrated.

http://www.jgsales.com/product_info...mer-very-good-plus-condition/products_id/3104 - I know this is the autoloaders forum, but those revolvers are worth mentioning. The S&W K Frame (which family the Model 64 belongs to) were THE police sidearm until Glock came along. Many departments skipped the early "Wonder Nines", and kept their S&W wheel guns. Head over to the revolvers board here and read up on K Frame S&Ws. One post can't tell you all the good things about them.

A hi-point 9mm would be a decent enough choice. There are other choices that are "better quality", but there are plenty of people who have shot them and love them. But mossberg makes a decent tactical 12-gauge. A friend of mine has one with a collapsible stock with pistol grip trigger set up, and a pistol grip on the pump. But whatever you decide on just be safe with it.
