i just bought a new can of imr4831 for my 300 win mag, i know i can, but is it adviseable to put what little bit of the old can (imr4831) into the new? or should i just use up the old can, and keep the 2 seperate? what reall could happen if i mix them together? they are both the same powder, and the "old can is only about a year and a month old, so it is not like we are talking several years difference.

In doubt, call the company. They'll tell you based on the lot numbers if it's ok.

I might get flamed, but if the cans are identical (i.e. not "new and improved" since the last batch) I combine them. No problems thus far.

I have done it with the last little bit of one can. I just mixed it in real good. :)

I probably would not do it with powder used in my bench gun, but that is a whole nother ball of wax. I would not want any little doubt in my mind when I went to the line.

I do the same thing with Titegroup. I take the last little bit and add it to a 4 pound jug and the flip it over a few times to mix it up.

i always mix cans if the lot numbers are different. my thought process is if there is a lot-to-lot variation, mixing cans will dilute that effect.

I go thru Varget and H4895 likes its candy and I always throw the last bits of one can into the new can. I shake them up and have never had a problem and fully don't expect to.
