Yesterday I tried the 147gn Hornady FMJ's on top of varying loads of Blue Dot. At the minimum load the gun wouldn't even unlock, at the max load the gun cycled fine but accuracy was sub par, hardly worth the effort spent loading them up.

Any tips/ powders that have lead to success in the 147 grain flavor of bullets in Hi Powers? I want to give it another go because I like shooting heavier bullets but it's not worth it if my 124 gn blasting ammo out performs them.

I load a good deal of 147 gr. jacketed, and the FMJ's never deliver the accuracy of a HP. I think it's the nature of the profile.

As for Blue Dot, I've had some very good results with it and other slow burners when taken up to near max..

blue dot is for max loads in the 9mm. there is not enough case volume left using the 147 grain bullet to get the blue dot to burn efficiently. works great with 124 grain bullets, though.

i gave up on 147 grain bullets for my hipower a long time ago. i shoot 124 grain bullets almost exclusively.

good to know. Ill shoot up the rest of the 147's and stick to the 124's and the 115's they shoot incredibly well.

I noticed even with my max blue dot loads I was still being trickled with unburned granules of powder. Thanks for lending your experience!
