Just now I've finished a set of walnut furniture (handgrip, stock and A1 handguard) I had made for a new 20" AR I'll be putting together as stuff arrives in the next week or so. I used Watco Light Walnut Danish Oil and I probably won't really know what it looks like until it dries for 24 hours.

That gives me a little time to think about whether or not to high grade it with Tru-Oil, of which I have a brand new bottle. The bottle is a leftover from refinishing an SKS, which came out very nicely. The Tru-Oil gives a really glossy result.

But that's a different animal and, frankly, the SKS is pretty much a safe queen. The contemplated AR will get used and I anticipate that it won't look like a new gun a year from now; it will acquire some mileage markers.

I don't know. Any pros or cons you guys can think of?

I used it on my kids 22s, and was happy with the results. You could always scotchbrite it lightly to get rid of the shine.
