NAy one have one?
Ever shoot one?
What do you think of them?

I shooth my Mosins like I was a natural born Russian, they do no wrong in my hands.

My local gun dealer took one in on trade that looks to me an untrained eye) to be in real good shape.
It would be great to add it to the Russian 7.62x54R stable mmmm 10 round magazine fed goodness.

But after doing some research I see prices
Prices range from $300 to around $650 for an SVT-40 depending upon condition and arsenal of origin.

Stealer wants $899.00 :cuss:

hmmmmmm jacking price thru the roof becouse they are hard to come buy, or are they just nuts?

That's an old reference. I haven't seen an SVT go for less than $600 in quite awhile, and they've gone for up to $1000.

Never fired one myself or even seen one close up. The Gunboards.com guys piddle with them alot, though.

Probably due to the availability. I don't recall ever seeing them on Inter-Ordnance or kicking around a gun store. I'd haggle with them, bring in the blue book, note dents and dings and the like. If they want $900 you probably won't get it down to what the blue book or any of the other places say it's worth... That's when you have two big bargaining tools:

1) Just walk away they may throw you a little more incentive
2) Time. Gun like that, sitting on the rack with no one looking at it? Come back in awhile and ask if they're willing to be more reasonable

Option 2 is more risky though given that anyone can come in a figure it's worth it if that's the one they need for a collection or something

I'd love to have one of them personally, but probably wouldn't be good for me (left handed shooter)

Good luck to you though, and hopefully you can get it. From what I hear they're decent shooters

Thanks guys.....
Doing more "poking around" on the net, the ONLY source I have found for spare magazines is at Surplus-firearms for $150.00 :what:

I remember when a local shop had three for $300 each, all minty. It's amazing what prices can do in a few years. Suffice it to say, that's no longer the going price for these rifles. You'll be LUCKY to find one for $600 or $700. Many are going for over a grand.

Auction prices are insane, often due to a complete lack of research and seeking instant gratification. Prices are rising, but seven hundred or so seems to be a fair rate when not auctioned.

As for the rifles, they are fun, but honestly not an eight hundred or nine hundred dollar rifle in my opinion. And I love mine.

But they are fun to shoot, make no mistake, very well made, and reasonably accurate for a battle rifle.

They are also perfectly fine for a left-handed shooter in all regards except the safety. It's a simple trigger-blocking flag, but it rotates out of the way to the left, making it inconvenient to disengage.

Not too nuts....

I have a couple- love 'em to pieces. Comfortable and cheap to shoot. Prices, lately, are through the roof. I would say you're looking at 700-900 for a good solid representative rifle.

Russian 7.62x54R stable mmmm 10 round magazine fed goodness.

If your major desire is 10 round magazines of 7.62x54R goodness, you may wish to consider the Romanian PSL. Not Russian, but it has an AK action, and is a lot of fun. Typically can be had with a scope for around $800.

OK lets explore that for a min.
What or where are some good places to source up a PSL.

I love the 54R and a semi-auto rifle to go with the Mosins would be great.
The PSL magazines can't be 150 a whack (can they?)

From what I have read on the net, PSL's are hard to come by right now. I had ordered one last June and took right up till Xmas to get it. I saw reports that they were being bought by the US for the Iraqi police. Don't know if its true or not.

You can find mags for psl's for about 35 dollars a piece or around 100 bocks for four with a mag pouch, just goggle romak psl mags.

The price is maybe a bit high. I'd also like to get a SVT, but haven't seen them for sale at all at the last few local gun shows. Last time I saw one (year and a half ago or so) I think the guy wanted 800-something for it.

Gah! I hope not. They previously destroyed a bunch of captured ones according to this:

I got one this weekend (1941 Tula) SVT-40 for $625 out the door. It's in great shape, mirror bore and very very nice stock. No arsenal repairs. Had to order the 'tool' so I can take it down and inspect the gas system, but I think I did pretty well on it.

Hope I don't like it as much as my M39's... :D

Damn! those pictures Groovski posted blew my mind. That was the one thing I was trying to get my hands on the whole time I was there, to no avail.
