Optic mounts for SVT-40 rifles

Hi,

After some bad experience with Persian mauser (see the whole story herehttp://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4154532&posted=1#post4154532) I decided to sell it away and returned to the much appreciated by me SVT-40 rifle. Three years ago I sold one and all these three years I regreted this act but after some dealers imported well stored svt rifles from Ukraine I didnt hesitatet for a long time and picked the best rifle I can choose from dozen others. I bought SVt-40 in very nice condition dated to 1941 (the date the great patriotic war started)

I really don’t like to mess with surplus arms, and if I do some changes usually it is easy to bring the gun back to its original condition. Also if needed I restore wooden parts.

I tried to do some search but didn’t found any optic mounts for SVT. does anyone know a respected manufacturer of such mounts. I saw some very good kits for mosin-nagant designs including mounts, screws, optic sight and etc. some kind of replicas of old model but manufactured with modern material and technology.

To use original-style mounts, you have to have the sniper notch milled out of the rear of the receiver. That would destroy its value beyond that of a shooter. There may be some slide-on mounts that hold on with set-screws, but I'm not sure they would be very good. One possibility would be to get an extra dust-cover and make a mount with that in the same was the FAL mounts work. However, it would likely have the same deficits that the FAL (or AK) mounts work. It would be tough to do without altering the rifle.

Perhaps a Mosin scout mount could be altered to fit the rear sight. However, the rear-sight on an SVT is not a real sturdy mount given its design.

what you need to do is drill and tap the receiver, right where the year stamp is, and put a mini scout rail. I figure a barska 4x20 red dot ought to do you just fine.

I realy dont want to drill or tap this rifle..... may be I will just left it as it is.....

I think he's joking as that would be a terrible place to try and mount anything.
