A guy I work around aproached me a couple of weeks ago about getting into clay target shooting. He wanted to get into a sport that he and his son could do together instead of him setting in the bleachers being a spectator. I pointed him in the right direction as I new of a guy that had a Beretta A391 Parallel Target shotgun for sale for $450.00 :what: , yea I know if I would of had the money I would of had it right now. His boy is 12 and a pretty good athlete but needed a shorter gun.

Well I had an 1100 stock that I needed to cut down for my kids about 8 years from now but I went ahead and cut about 2" off and put a Decelerator on it so its about 1 3/8 shorter than normal and it fit on my 11-87. He wanted to stay with 12 ga and light loads but needed something for his boy to shoot as the Beretta was a bit long.

I went to the club a bit early today to shoot a couple of rounds before I said that I would meet them. Had one of those days the planets lined up and shot a straight 50 in the wind.:D

My friend and his boy showed up right on time and we went through the safety routine and got down to shooting. I started them out on low seven station and took it real slow and they were breaking the targets consistantly. They each shot 25 from station seven lows and a few highs and got about 16 or 17 each. We took a little break and went down to station 1 and shot half a box each there and broke over half the targets from both high and low houses. I was coaching them on gun stance and technique a little at a time so they could get the feel. They split another box of shells on station 2 and broke over half of these targets as well.

They were very happy, a little tired and wanting to shoot some more, but I could tell it was enough and advised them to take it slow. I let them borrow the cut down 11-87 and told them about the drill that sm recommends about mounting a gun repetitively so they would get used to the feel and they said they would give it a try.

I believe they have found a sport they can enjoy together. ;)

Well done, sir!! If each of us did something like this, our world would be the better for it.

I always like to put in that extra effort, especialy when there is a kid involved, to teach new shooters. I'll meet them out at the club again when our schedules mesh to get them breaking clays all the way around and start them on some trap targets.

I always liked the saying, The family that shoots together stays together. :D

" You done good" kudu !

Next thing you know a single stage MEC will follow them home. :D

Low seven...yep that is what I do. Of course I'm the idiot that decides to drop low 7 in a tourney. I'd be real careful using anything I suggest as an example. :D
You just kinda stand there and watch it hit the gound in disbelief...:uhoh:
