Today was a wonderful day, not weather wise, but shooting wise! I bought my eldest son a Savage Cub for Christmas and took him to the range this afternoon. :D:D I am a very proud pappa today! :D He was extremely safe with new bolt action .22lr rifle. Kept the muzzle in a safe direction, finger off the trigger until he was ready to shoot. He did great! Just had to share this passing on the tradition moment. I hope DCF doesn't check out THR.

Here are few pix from the day.

The stock is a little long for him yet, but he'll grow into it. He had to get his head down to see through the rear peep. :D

First 2 shoots at 20ft. :D:D:D:D Takin' after his old man! :D:D

Merry Christmas and Congrats!

I also took my son out to the range today to try out an 870 Express 20ga which he had wanted. He is 12 and loved my 12 ga. From here on it it's about practice till we get out to hunt some Quail. I still haven't shot my new FN shotgun.

taking the grandson out this week with his Dad,and shoot 'till our arms fall off.
Hopefully he'll do the same for my great grandson someday.

Nice pics,thanks for sharing.

DCF?

lemme guess: a govt. agency staffed by do-gooders who frown on traditional father-son bonding activities and who always know what's best for other peoples' children.

Yep! I was talking with another skeet shooter last week and his brother had to give him his 1100 skeet gun because his brother was adopting a kid. Apparently, the adoption agency made him give up his guns if wanted to adopt a kid! :cuss: :cuss: Have you heard of such an absurd thing?

DCF=Child protective services, Dept Children and Family services, etc.

No, but I am not surprised.

Just generalizing, but the mindset in those agencies is way out to lunch when it comes to common sense. imo, they have done a great deal of harm, in the last 30 years, to young boys and teenagers, by separating them from their birth father role models.

The social workers bring their own petty soft-skinned middle-class values and world-view (i.e. bias) to their work, and there is no arguing the facts or the reasons.

This is not from personal experience, but what I've heard from good fathers they have victimized. I also see it in the media, who are willing accomplices.

Thing is that courthouse dockets are filling up with the socially devastating results of 30 years of this anti-father bias. Sure keeps the social workers busy in their careers though, and the pension benefits are pretty good.

Poor Elmo. I guess he had it coming.
Oh, you got him a rifle. That's a good gift and some good shooting. Way to go Dad and Junior.

That DCF thing must be regional. I have a coworker here in Tennessee whose guns and hunting habit did not prevent him from adopting.

Nice,

He shoots as good as daddy already! :p

What I "like" about the DCF here is their workers are usually young childless social workers who in their "infinite experience" are going to tell you the proper way to raise your children. That's CT. Then many years ago I had indirect dealings with the equivalent bureau in upstate NY. I don't know about the rest of the state but the office up in Malone was "manned" by nothing but lesbians. Now, what do lesbians know about raising children?

Good on ya distra! Can't believe the little bugger is already big enough to hold a rifle. They grow up too damn fast! :D

Wait until his arms grow long enough to shoulder that rifle. He'll be a crack shot.

The first time I read the thread title I had a picture in my head of your son blasting away at a gift-wrapped box. ;)
