I finally broke down and ordered an AR-15. Based on recommendations from other HighRoad forum members, I have a Daniel Defense M4, V7 on the way. Thank you, gentlemen.

Although the DD rifles seem to be in high demand (and hard to find), I put myself on a waiting list with one of the online retailers and was notified in about two weeks from the date I signed up that the gun was available for purchase. This didn't seem like an unreasonable amount of time to wait. (However, the price is probably $100 - $200 more than I might have paid four or five months ago.)

Any recommendations for accessories? I don't want to create a Christmas tree. On the other hand, I don't believe the rifle even comes with iron sites (BUIS is the technical term, if I'm not mistaken).

Congrats

Buis are sights you use when your primary goes down. Usually backups are a peep and a front post and the primary is an optic of some sort but you could have your primary be iron sight. Generally the buis aren't quite as nice as regular dedicated iron sights.

I'd recommend an aimpoint micro t1 or h1 and a dozen pmags and a sling. Possibly a small flashlight depending on what you want to do with it

I couldn't have said it better. Though I prefer the larger "standard" Aimpoints over the Micro.

you have an excellent start there. i'm a fan of the micros, but the pro should serve you well. as taliv stated...a sling, handful or two pmags, and a bunch of ammo and you all set. i keep a tlr-1 on my ar and would definitely recommend it for HD purposes.

Aimpoints are probably better for home defense.... but I really REALLY like my new ACOG.

TA33R8.

The old Aim-Point vs Eotech debate....

Think either would be excellent choices-I went with the Eotech EXPS-2 and find it an awesome sight (may want to look through both and see which you like the best).

I too have the V7-they're a very quality piece and sure you will like it alot!

To me, the greatest thing about the AR's is their versatility-I went with an American Defense quick detachable base so I can change the Eotech out for the Nikon AR223 scope (3x12) in less than 2 minutes and it return to zero.

I chose the Yankee Hill flip up sights and like them.

Enjoy!

I'd start out with more of a basic setup. I don't think you need BUIS unless you are using the rifle as a tool. If you're going to be shooting on the range, start with basic scope (1-4x) or a red dot. If a red-dot, and you are using the gun on the range, save some money and go with a Vortex SPARC. Very good price/performance and a 2 MOA dot.
Enjoy the new purchase and use it for a while before you add many more parts.

Man, when I seen this thread I was thinking. " Great another guy ganna be bragging about his DPMS or stag or something "

Really glad you got a DD good choice that thing is solid & will not fail you.
Good hunting.

Nice rifle!

It's really hard to go wrong with any Aimpoint. The PRO is cheaper, but the T1 is lighter and less bulky. The T1 used to have the disadvantage of only being available with a 4 MOA dot, but now they make it with a 2 MOA as well, so that's not an issue anymore.

A sling would be nice... you'd probably benefit most from a 2-point. The Vickers/Blue Force sling is a really good one. You'd need some sort of sling swivel mount for that handguard for the front attachment point.

If I remember your older thread, I think you said you might use this for home defense. If that is the case, I would definitely add the flashlight and mount to the list. I like the cantilever mounts that put the flashlight on the front of the handguard at 11 o'clock (if you're right handed). You want the tail button right where your thumb can press it when you're in shooting position. A surefire scout is a good light (you can't put cheap crap on that nice rifle!!).

You might also think about a suppressor (with QD flash hider). A 16" 5.56 indoors with no ear protection is guaranteed to damage your hearing.

I just fired mine this week for the first time, and was very happy with it. Made by a FL CO. Tactical Weapons Solutions. It ran all of $800 brand new, with a Tapco mag, flip up Iron sights and a bungee sling, with the connector for the sling in 3 places. It's an m4, and It was perfect out of the box, I added a floating rail, cheap red dot and utg rubber protectors on the rail, also changed the grip handle to the ergo style, I think it was UTG, and the front grip to one that you can slip 2 pressure switches for lights and lasers. Mayve $200 all together, but now that I shot it, I wand to get a better optic, and have looked at every model in exhistance. The trijicom, was recommended to me by a couple gun store friends, because of the lack of batteries,it looke as bright as the others. The cheapo red dot I got actually worked well at the indoor range where I went to zero it in. It was way off. The front sight was all the way up, I thought it was messed up because the bore sighter showed both sights were aiming halfway up the front sight, it was close as far as left to right , just had to bring it down to earth. But it did take more than a few shots.
