I got my chores done early today, so I cheated a little and took the Mossberg 500 12ga out to play today. Stopped by the Dollar store and bought two cheap Flying Disks (Flying Saucers or Frisbees to some of you.) and some styrofoam plates to use for targets.
The loads were the Bulk pack Federal Multi purpose load. 3 dram 1 1/8 oz shot #8.
I stood three plates on edge in a stand I had made previously of two 2 x 4 screwed together with spacers between so I could stand cardboard targets up. At fifteen yards the plates were literally a strainer with dozens of holes.
I decided I would toss the disk up with my left hand while holding the butt of the shotgun on my right hip. I tossed it as high as I could left handed, brought the shotgun up and grasped the forearm with my left hand. I pulverized the disk and it is now in pieces in the back of my truck. I have to admit I haven't handled a shotgun in maybe ten to twelve years and never with field and target loads. Somehow it seems like cheating to have so much shot in the loads.
Anyway, the shotgun performed well and should suffice to fill the gap between pistol and rifle.
