I'd say get a good DVD and watch it, but don't train yet. Have her take a local 4 hour basic pistol course. After that, train the techniques from the DVD. If she is really serious, she can practice at home with an airsoft replica of her carry gun using her carry gear. That's in addition to dry fire and manipulation of her carry gun with snap caps.
If done well, I'd bet I could build a better gunfighter, quicker with dry-fire/snapcap gunhandling and airsoft with only sporadic live fire than most could do all live fire. Why? Because in the real world everything isn't equal, you can never get to a range as much as you'd like. You can do dry fire and airsoft anywhere, anytime. In a perfect world you could just live fire as much as you wanted. Also, gun handling and movement are more important than pure marksmanship in a gunfight. Many ranges don't let you do anything but stand and fire...that's all well and good until you can quickly and consistently hit CM out to 10-15 yards. Then your marksmanship is plenty good for defense, got to train all the other stuff.
