Can anyone recommend a DVD for my friend? She is new to the shooting world. She wants to get a handgun. Most likely I will never get her out to the range more than once. Long story. I'd like to see her get some snap caps and watch a very good DVD which covers topics like accurate shooting, carry methods, how to safely draw, etc.

Any ideas?

Learning to shoot a gun from a DVD is like learning to drive from a DVD. She needs a competent coach.
She must go to a range to understand shooting and sighting, feel the gun reaction and work through the fundamentals. She must learn gun safety and learn to hit the intended target.

I'll assume she intends to use it as a self defense weapon....so teach her to point shoot and delay the complex target shooting aspect of a handgun. Metal on meat works best.

Target shooting postures and rules are confusing and counter intuitive in a self defense encounter. Help her find a 'self defense' type coach who emphasizes survival and who will train her at her instinctive response level because that's how she'll fight.

Agreed, two hours at the range doing live fire will be more effective and longer lasting than any DVD.

Video training works better once you have a foundation.

I'd say get a good DVD and watch it, but don't train yet. Have her take a local 4 hour basic pistol course. After that, train the techniques from the DVD. If she is really serious, she can practice at home with an airsoft replica of her carry gun using her carry gear. That's in addition to dry fire and manipulation of her carry gun with snap caps.

If done well, I'd bet I could build a better gunfighter, quicker with dry-fire/snapcap gunhandling and airsoft with only sporadic live fire than most could do all live fire. Why? Because in the real world everything isn't equal, you can never get to a range as much as you'd like. You can do dry fire and airsoft anywhere, anytime. In a perfect world you could just live fire as much as you wanted. Also, gun handling and movement are more important than pure marksmanship in a gunfight. Many ranges don't let you do anything but stand and fire...that's all well and good until you can quickly and consistently hit CM out to 10-15 yards. Then your marksmanship is plenty good for defense, got to train all the other stuff.

Consider this a second vote for the Tactical Response DVD. It covers most of the material and shooting fundamentals covered in the two-day Fighting Pistol class. You can learn a lot from it, whether you are a novice or someone with experience and prior training.
