Top of slide nicks

I took my brand new Colt 1911A1 NRM out the other day for the first time and shot Blazer and White Box ammo, one box of each. When I got home I noticed two little nicks on the top of the slide in front of the ejection port.

Is it possible for the brass to somehow have done that? I can't think of any other reason for the marks.

Brass is much softer than steel, so ejected brass cannot nick a slide. Could it just be scuff marks?
