This is a question for the LEO members of this forum. I wanted to ask what you think about civilians carrying handguns for self defense. I have read in a few places that most officers favor the idea but wanted to find out for myself.

We had a thread recently on this. I think most LEOs prefer citizens with CCW because the LEO knows right away that the person has passed background checks and poses no threat.

However, there are some LEOs that dislike the idea.

I suppose this would be a more appropriate question to ask over at 911jobforums if you were looking for different opinions. I am sure you would get more mixed opinions on the topic than you would here. I have debated with a few of them over there about this topic in the past.

There is a pretty good crowd of people over there from all different types of law enforcement. You have everything from federal agents with the various alphabet soup agencies, beat cops, state troopers, military folks, corrections officers, probation and parole types, and few wannabes. Actually, there are a good number of knowledgeable people that hang out there from time to time.

Of course I'm not currently in the LEO business like I was a few months back, but my opinion is all for an Alaska and Vermont type of concealed carry law. That is my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.
