Semi NSFW. Pictures are censored.

Well this is certainly a different approach, although still desperate and ill informed. I do have to give it up to them on creativity.

MOD NOTE: Don't stoop to locker room humor on this. Stay focused on the absurdity of the counter protest and keep this a serious discussion in spite of how silly the situation was.
BTW, it is perfectly legal to go topless in Austin.

I think it speaks to their level of discourse that an *obvious* plan of action to them is to remove their tops and stand on street corners.

That's certainly the way to prompt a rational, non-emotional discussion of the relative merits of two opposing positions. Nice job, 'moms'!

I think I understand why these women stripped in public. They are so sure they are right that they think that if people would just pay attention to their message, we would all convert to their point of view. They are growing desperate because Americans aren't buying what they're selling.

This would have gotten more national coverage if they'd have dressed in clown costumes instead of acting like clowns.

America might be amused or disgusted, but overall WE should be grateful that these bare chested ladies pulled this stunt since it clearly undermines the credibility of the MDA organization.

BTW, Austin, unsurprisingly, has a topless movement that's been going on for years so it is just a little less weird in a city that embraces the call to "Keep Austin Weird" to have something like this take place.

I think both side are the same personality types.
Narcissistic absolutists without insight who think they are totally right and every one else is wrong, and they will go to extremes to call attention to themselves.
Both sides need therapy or good smack to realign their thinking.

Excellent, helps our side.
I know if I were a 'fence sitter' and had to see those particular gals I would immediately root for the other side :)

The comments are more interesting than anything.

Like why weren't they arrested for indecent exposure?

They are using the initials "MDA" which is the same initials for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Were they exposing themselves in front of children?

This statement sums it up

"If there was a single child in the area, they should have charged every one of them with indecent exposure and made them all register as sex offenders since they were exposing themselves to minors."

.

Well, being bare-chested is apparently not a crime in Austin, TX, so they can't be arrested for indecent exposure or any of those related offenses, no matter who's looking.

This is probably a good thing.

Maybe their movement will morph into some sort of amalgum of feminists that completely lose sight of trying to take away gun rights, and concentrate on another non-issue.

If people aren't paying enough attention to you, either strip clothes or break things. Works for North Korea...the breaking things anyway.Either way it is a desperate ploy that no one wants to see.

This is a clever strategy. It guarantees that people will at least give them their attention for a moment even if it's nothing more than a quick glance. People will notice the sign that they are carrying and their message will be promoted in ever such small increments. This is not at all unlike the yayhoos who think that carrying an AR on their shoulder in public will advance the 2A somehow. Both of those groups are radical and are grasping for attention. The problem is that when a person or group is desperate and grasping for attention the attention that they get is negative and serves more to demote the message than promote it.

If they had done this stunt on South Beach, no one would have even noticed! :D

It certainly is quite a desperate grab for attention, even in weird Austin.
As someone said, they are losing badly and felt this would give their sagging campaign a boost.

Instead ,they look like middle aged tramps with no shame. :scrutiny:

Perhaps, but what is presented in such a way to make the viewer ill tends to leave a negative connotation...

Which begs the question... since I'm leaving my top on does that mean I'm protesting the protesters?

udderly ridiculous. isn't there a law against female toplessness in public?

It's interesting when someone can be arrested merely because someone was offended.
