Have a dumb question here so do not make fun of me
I got a tornado brush which is meant for .35 cal./9mm Rifle. Now I was looking for a tornado brush for a 9mm pistol. Can I use the rifle brush on my 9mm pistol?
Not a dumb question.
Yes, you can use your rifle size Tornado brush on your handgun barrel as long as you remove the barrel from the pistol and clean from the breech to the muzzle.
Going from muzzle to breech may cause excessive wear to the muzzle counterbore/chamfer and if the barrel is left in the gun you may wedge the brush into the bore.
I feel the stainless Tornado brushes are a bit too agressive on barrel bores but that is a choice and decision for you to make.
The guy I took the first step pistol class with strongly recommended the tornado brush because according to him the other brushes scratch the bore. It is just his opinion, of course. I wonder about the opinion ot the THR folks on bore brushes.
I use Tornado brushes all the time to clean revolver cylinders. They do a nice job. I'll also pass them 2 or 3 times through the barrel, mostly to clean the focing cone area. They don't do a great job cleaning out the groove to land corners. A regular bonze brush is need to finish up.
That's my opinion. You can't get a curved coil into a sharp corner. The only Tornado brushes I've ever seen were made of stainless steel (SS). IMO, a SS coil would do more damage to a barrel than brass or bronze brush.
