Hi,

Just some idle curiosity. I have a 50th anniv. Blackhawk in 357, which I really enjoy. (Now I know why people rave about the old flat tops.) I heard they were a limited run. Does anyone know how many were made?

Thanks.

Regards, Jeff

Both of mine are in the 4000-5000 serial # range and I believe I have seen them up in the 12000 range as well. "Limited" has taken on too boad of a meaning now. To some it's an automatic dscription for anything that has few made than another moel. The 50th Ann .357 BH was cataloged for just a single year. They're still shipping now as part fo the 50th Ann set with the .44 mag flattop. I'd venture to uess that upwards of 15000 at least were manufactured.

A *lot*. Hell, it's even still a cataloged item, although only when paired with a 50th 44 as well.

Also note that a sights upgrade on a New Vaquero gets you functionally the same thing. A number of gunsmiths are grafting S&W J-frame rear sights on the Vaquero topstrap, then do a custom front sight and you're there.

BlkHawk73,

Thanks for the info. I first thought about getting one as an investment or a safe queen. Then I handled one. It came home with me that afternoon and has become my favorite single action. It feels so good in the hand and shoots so well, I'm surprised Ruger didn't make it a regular part of their line.

Regards, Jeff

Just wait, you may not be surprised after all. ;)

There's already been one extra distributor run that's NOT marked "Anniversary" but is otherwise the flattop 357. Some kind of a tribute piece, but not so fancy as to be un-shootable.
