Tracker .45 Colt

Has anyone heard or hopefully shot the Taurus Tracker?

We have one down at the gun counter for $423 in .45 Colt and I was curious if it would be worth adding to the collection.

It's small and light, ported, and I like the white and orange sights.

It would become a woods gun - I know the .44 Mag would make an excellent woods gun among others - but I like the .45 Colt.

Any comments / reviews would be helpful.

I have a Tracker in .45 ACP and so far have put 250 shots through it. The SA trigger pull is fine, while the DA pull leaves a lot to be desired (my comparison is a S&W K or L frame, tough comparison). The DA pull is improving and the fit and finish are very good (comparable to recent Smiths that I've seen). The porting and Taurus Ribber grips do their job so that recoil is less than shooting a 1911.

One advantage to the 45 Colt is its flexability in reloading from wimpy cowboy loads to hot magnum-like loads. I doubt that the Tracker would stand a steady diet of the latter but probably would be happy with loads in the 900 fps class.

One advantage to the Tracker in 45 ACP is the use of the Taurus full moon clips for speed of loading and 45 ACP is cheaper to shoot if you don't reload, 45 Colt is going for more than $20/box in my neck of the woods.

In general I'm very positive about the revolver, caliber choice is up to you.

I did alittle searching and it's got a few good reviews - think I'll go down and see about picking it up this evening - .45 Colts don't usually walk out the door very quickly here.

Down here it's about $19.00 a box of 50 for Winchester Cowboy.

I have a box or two of the Silvertips for it - so I'll see how it goes.

Can't be any worse than a .45-70 Thompson Contender.......

have one and it is excellent. It is a 4" with 5 shot cylinder. With win silvertips 225gr I am getting 4" groups off a knee rest while sitting and with a rest I am a little better. My handloads are in a paper plate at 50 yds from a sitting restover my knees.

Mine has a very strong trigger pull but it is smooth all the way thru. I want to get some wolf springs to lighten it a little.

It is by no means a S&W fit and finish but I did not pay for a S&W but a Taurus. The side plate is smooth fitting and a nice tight fit with no slop. The cylinder is nicely finished inside and the cases fall out the first 4 or 5 cylinders full. the lockup is nice and tight with no front to back or side to side movement but a tiny bit of rotational movement.

With my handloads of 255 gr SWC the recoil is a solid hit which is taken up by the gripper grips and muzzle flip is a minimum due to the porting.

Comparing it to my S&W 66 for size comparision the Tracker is a little bit smaller length and heightwise and the cylinder is about the same. It is a lighter gun than the 65 due to bigger holes in the barrel and cyl.

I am planning on carrying it for white tails this year as a close range 50 yds and under gun this year and as I see what I can do with it over the next year I might move out further.

Overall it is a keeper!!!!!

BTW this is my 2nd tracker, my other is a 6" 357. and it is a keeper also

Buyer's remorse

Mine fired 20 rounds of Winchester white box

It went off to Florida today. The CS rep. on the phone told me it would be 3-4 weeks to get fixed.

I should've got that GP-100 I was looking at.
