Since the 7.62x39 ammo supply seems to be drying up, is this a sound idea?
The guy at the show wants $100 more from me. ' said he'll hold it for me til next show. TIA

Longbow, 7.62x39 is coming back into the country. However the supply is not up to the demand. With the recent shortage people seem to be doing alot of "panic" buying. The availability of inexpensive AKs and SKSs seems to be exacerbating the problem. As far as the Daewoo rifle, I have no personal experience with them. My main concern would be parts availability and/or service work if you had any kind of problem with it.

Longbow,

Since you are asking, personally I think that would be a really bad idea. The Daewoos are good rifles but as krochus pointed out, parts are very hard to find since the rifle is no longer imported.

Don't panic over the ammo. You can still buy 7.62x39, just not at the price you used to. IMHO, panic buying is probably causing more problems with supply and price then anything else. Hopefully it will come back down and all will be right in the world.

If you want the Daewoo, buy it without a trade with the understanding that their may not be replacement parts now or in the future. It is a shame too, the Daewoo is a nice rifle.

To sum up. I would rather have a working rifle that takes expensive ammo then a non-working rifle that takes cheap ammo.

Cheers

I already have a pre-ban DR2000. I'm thinking I'll buy this one for parts, just in case my pre-ban breaks.
You guys are right, the AK is a great rifle, I'll just trade my BHP instead or just buy the Daewoo outright. Thanks to all!

I think trading a BHP for a Daewoo is an even worse idea than trading a Bulgarian AK for one.

My BHP is the MK II. Its not the best looking BHP anyway and the front sight is too dinky small. I figured I have to put more $$ into it to get it to my liking.

My vote is for the Daewoo. It is under-valued IMO. I have one.
I purchased a folding stock from Ace Riflestocks. This folder is very
well designed and is very strong. It makes the DR-200 into an attractive
and compact package.

It's a good chance that 7.62x39mm will be available, just a little more expensive in the future. But the spare parts required for a Daewoo may never be really all that available ever again. (No one imports Daewoos anymore).

That being said, I've shot one Daewoo in my life, and I thought it was superior to an AR in every way that counts. If you find a supplier for surplus, I would bite. Elsewise, wait up. 7.62x39 could come back around.

His SLR-94 is a Cadillac among Kalashnikovs.

Milled receiver, Steyr hammer-forged barrel, smooth trigger, 2 MOA accuracy, and sister rifle to the SLR-95. The Bulgarian milled AK rifles are also no longer being imported (complete) and as such have garnered higher prices than stamped receiver rifles. So no, don't trade that SLR-94 for the Daewoo.

Sell it to me, so it can keep my SLR-95 company. ;)

daewoo is the finest clone maker out there, no doubt. however i have no frame of reference as to parts availability or service. i have 2 51's in 9mm and they are great pistols, they are copies of the s/w 59 series pistols. and they use a lot of switchable parts. their ar clone is fantastic, a long time ago a bunch were going to be imported into this country for some gov agency, but someone put a big stop to that. so that hould give yuou a little info on the daewoo, but that is all it is, a little.

another thing, ammo is made in huge runs, and then shipped to several places during the first quarter of the new year. this is how the major buyers buy their guns, parts, ammo, etc. not sure where you are but by April your nearest med to large gunshop or box store should have a lot of everything.

I believe that there is NO parts avalibility for Daewoo rifles as I don't believe the company is around any longer.

The company is still in business making everything.... Bush SR just banned Daewoo rifles from import by EO.

if they are still in business, perhaps its still a possibility to get parts.

I'd keep the Arsenal rifle though. The 7.62x39 guys are going through something similar to what us 5.45x39 guys have endured for quite a while now.

Just buy an extra case when its available again and wait for production to catch up.

Such the parts would be imports I doupt it. Plus unlike AKs and other rilfes there are not enough people owning Daewoo rifles to bother importing parts.

Well, the gun show was today. As I stopped at the door to have my SLR checked and tied up, a cop and the person at the door told me to reconsider. Like some of you guys said, " its one of the best AK clone out there and parts for the Daewoo is almost none existent", they said too. Needless to say.....I'm keeping it. :)
I also ask those ammo sellers there about the ammo shortage. The predominant explaination is that, its being supplied to other countries too. The demand is high outside the U.S.
Thanks again to all of you.
