I'm looking for my fellow highroaders advice. I recently built a new AR and suddenly don't have a need for my old AR. So, I decided to post it up on a local forum trying to trade it for a nice O/U. I value my AR at around $725. I had one gentleman contact me with a couple of different offers. First was a Tikka 412S. Its a 12ga, 28" barrels with interchangeable chokes in very good condition. Next was an Ithaca/SKB 600 12ga with fixed skeet/skeet chokes. This gun is in very food condition as well.

He would want the AR + $100 cash for the Tikka. He would trade me the Ithaca + $100 for the AR.

Now, I don't know much about O/U's, so that why I'm looking to get some feedback here. My initial plan was to have the gun be for trap and skeet, which would obviously have to take choke tubes. But, the Ithaca seems like a great deal.

So, what do you guys think?

Thanks
Adam

both are quality guns and if you're sticking with skeet then either will do, if you move to trap or sporting then I'd go with the Tikka. I favor two different chokes in a field gun so if you're thinking about hunting that would sway me to the Tikka also unless it was overly heavy.

The Ithaca will have thick enough barrels that should you want choke tubes installed, it should not be an issue

Both are out of production so parts and getting them fixed might present a problem.

For trap and skeet, with a max budget of 725 plus 100 - you have better choices that are still available and in production - either in semi auto versions like the Beretta 3901, or the Lanber from CDNN. Then there are used guns from Browning and Beretta that you might find with a good search and some patience.

Otherwise, go with the SKB, GU in Omaha has the remaining inventory of guns and parts

Thanks for the help guys. As of right now, I'm leaning towards the Tikka because of all the great reviews of read on other gourmand. The tikka just seems for versatile to me.
