I'm thinking about trading in my Glock 27 and picking up a Beretta M9 or 92FS. I'm wondering what you all think.

I can't shoot worth a damn with my G27 (please, don't give me tips) and I could never get comfortable carrying it chambered seeing as it has no safety and a light trigger(please, let's not beat that dead horse either).

I think part of my accuracy problem has to do with the .40 in such a small package and that the G27 doesn't fit my hand very well. I've fired a few 9mm's since and I can fire them well and I'm comfortable with that caliber. I thought I'd like something a bit bigger and I'm not too concerned about concealment, and I'd like a manual decocker safety. Unloading the G27 for an M9 seemed to fit the bill perfectly, and seeing as my G27 is in 100% beautiful shape with about 500 rounds through it I thought I could make the trade without losing too much cash.

Thoughts? Other things I was considering trading for are the Stoeger Cougar or an HK USP compact, but with the Cougar I'd be afraid I'd still just be wanting the big meaty M9, and with the HK I'd probably need to throw a few hundred more bucks at it.

And rather than starting a new thread, any recommendations concerning the M9 vs. 92FS?

First of all, the only difference between the M9 and the 92FS is the rear sight and the markings on the pistol. The M9 has a bar rear sight like stock Sigs.

If concealment is not an issue, the 92FS is a fantastic pistol. With two or three Mec-Gar 17-round magazines you have a great home defense weapon. I have plenty of confidence in a 124-grain +P JHP going out of a 4.9" barrel.

I have carried my 92FS concealed a lot, even on hot summer days. It can be done with the right holster, belt, and garment.

If it don't fit or work for you, then either sell it or trade it on something that will.

There is no reason to hold on to a gun that you do not want or need.

I'm not a 40 cal fan & on the other side of that, I am a Beretta 92 fan so I would make that trade in a heart beat :D

If you are not happy with your G27, I would not have a problem trading it. The G27 is a great gun, but it did not feel great in my hand and I did not shoot mine real well either. I had one until I traded mine for this and this fits my hand very nicely. I do shoot it better also.

Thanks, gentlemen! My G27 is an excellent piece, but it will be appreciated far more by another handler. I wish it well!

I think 500 rounds is plenty for deciding whether or not one likes a pistol, and by that fact, shoot well with it.

It is not in OD Green, it is all black. I might be able to post pics in the next day or two. I also have a Milt Sparks Versamax II for it, which was worn maybe twice and is in brand new condition. I'd need a hella sweet offer to ship it, however, as there are probably several local dealers who would gladly yoink the package from me. Though I'd be happy to entertain offers, including on just the holster! :)

Is there anything else your considering as a replacement???

I'm with you, I need a manual safety. I've argued with everyone about the 40 and i still haven't given up on the round, i just think theres a better platform for it then Glock. With that said "I trust Glock more then any other firearm. period." but will be trading my G23 for a 26 in the future. Another thing they haven't mentioned between the M9 and 92 is the M9 has an accessory rail and the 92 dose not.(look into the Taurus PT92 in stainless, just as good) If i had the money I'd get a HK.

Once again, Is there anything else your considering as a replacement???

Yeah I'm also considering an XD9 subcompact or the midsize XD9, or I'd really consider a lot of other things (though the XDs don't have a manual safety that I want I think the grip safety would be a major improvement for my needs). But basically I'm just looking for some validation that my issues/concerns naturally lead to the decision of unloading the G27 for a more suitable weapon. If you have any other suggestions I'd be glad to hear it, but if so this might turn into one of 900 threads about which 9mm is best.
