Trade gun

New here and I'm sure it's been discussed before, but is there anyone that has a way to find the vintage of an old Trade gun. Not sure if mine is Crescent or J. Stevens but the Trade name is Newport Model CN. Research so far shows it could have been made by just about anybody. It showed up at our house sometime in the 50's, but not sure if maybe my dad got it from his dad. Serial or assembly number is stamped all over it so if there are records somewhere maybe I can trace it. Thanks for your thoughts.

Newport was one of the many private label brands made by Crescent. Unfortunately all the company records were lost or destroyed prior to WWII. Any guess at the age of the gun would be just that-a guess. Don't shoot it before having it checked out, especially the chamber length.
