I went to my local dealer today hoping to pick up a G19 or a J frame (If he had a J frame that floated my boat)
He did not have a single Glock in stock. He said he sold a total of 26 Glocks between a gun show on sat/sun and yesterday.
I have two trades, a NIB 870 home defence 5 shot 12g & a LNIB Kahr CW9 with a extra new Kahr mag.
He suggested going to Gander because they have all in stock Glocks priced at $499.
His offer is a even trade on a fixed site Glock. His Glock is $499 (when he has them)

So I cruised over to Gander and the fellow their offered me $110 for the 870 and $230 on the Kahr:eek:

So, of course I did not do it. My local dealer is going to give me a call when he gets some Glocks in. I was shocked at the spread in price. $160 difference is a lot.

Consignment is the way to go if you want to go through a gun shop. Mine charges 10% of the sale price or $50, whichever is higher. Trade ins just don't work in your favor....anywhere, from my experience. Both guns I have sold this way they got my asking price for, not my bottom dollar. See if you have any LGS that do consignment.

Other than that, sell them here.

If your guns were brand new they would never offer more than what they would pay wholesale from their distributor. Since they are NOT new (regardless of how new they really are, they have been delivered to an end consumer and are now used) they will offer less than wholesale.
Trade in is a losing proposition for the owner because you never get a fair value.
Always sell them yourself to get the most money. You pay for the convenience of having someone take them off your hands.

There offers are spot on when you consider your guns are not new. They have been sold to/transfered to you. They are therefore used. So if you take the BB of Guns out and look at the value of your gun at say 99%. Then take 30% off because they have to give you cash inventory it and then sell it again at a profit. They have a much higher overhead than your LGS.

CW9s are $368 IIRC shipped right now from Buds. The 870 if it is an express its a $337 gun NIB on the shelf.

I think your local gun shop is giving you a lot for your trade in. IMHO the CW9 if you sold it here would sell for $300 and the pump gun would sell for $275.

That is $575. I always sell on forum classifieds and buy with cash.

My local Gander Mountain has outrageously high sticker prices on handguns and ammo. I suspect that it is because we have a high military concentration and gander mountain is taking advantage of our nation's finest and credit card sales. :(

Heres an exampe of the sales tactics a lot of the BIG BOX sporting goods retailers use for buying used guns and price offers.

You could buy a new gun at one of these X stores and not even walk out of the store and ask them to rate it for a buy back and you would be lucky if they even offered you 50% of the guns value.

First thing they never rate the gun at its true grading, even a gun NIB will be rated at 95%, they almost always go 1-2 grades lower then the guns actual rating , from my experiences with them.

Also once they do a rating on it they deduct another 38 % from the blue book price.

Example take them a NIB Les baer premier 2 unfired, new price $1600, they will rate it at 95% and say its worth a $1000 and then they deduct 38% = $380 and the net result is $620 they offer you for the gun.

They will then put it in there display case forsale for $1450.

Your really better off selling the gun yourself online thru Gun Broker or Auction Arms, even with dealer transfer fees you will be farther ahead.

Sometimes these stores got real pay back when their idiot gun dept managers have bought replica winchesters and colt 1911 ww1 remakes as pristine originals and have paid thousands more than the gun was worth.

I heard one guy got $5000 for a $900 winchester commerative, that they thought was almost a 100 yrs. old.

So sometimes its worth to see what these stores may offer you, I have made out a few times.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was actually happy with the offer from my local dealer. He just didn't have the gun. I was just shocked with Gander being so far of from him. My 'normal' dealer was spot on, in my opinion. I went to another small dealer today and he was within $15 of my dealer and had a G19 so I made the deal.

The Kahr was great, 100% reliable with no hiccups but after about 450 rounds and 1000's of dry fires I just couldn't warm up to the trigger.

I see so few people at GM I guess they have to buy LOW and sell HIGH.

Just the yearly inventory tax is alot I bet.

Gander uses the Blue Book and will give you 60% of its retail price. Their new gun prices are higher, but they also have wiggle room for negotiation of approximately 10%. (That is from the manager of the GM where I live). Depending on local laws, how fast you want to sell it, etc., will dictate whether you should take more time to sell it yourself or go for the quicker cash. Either GM or your local gun store will give you more than a pawn shop

As per my friend rellascout, it would be best too keep the Kahr as a
CCW; and use the Remy 870 for HD~!

Exactly!!!! I own both.... LOL

I like the Glock 19 I am just not sure I am going to give up two rock solid guns for one.

The day after I bought the new 870 HD... I found a old wood stocked 870 Police with lots of 'character' that I fell in love with. So the new 870 was just taking up space.:)

Now I'm happy:)

A while back I bought my girlfriend a 642 to carry in her purse. She put maybe 50 rounds through it and absolutely hated the trigger and recoil. We went to a local gunshop and she found an MK9 that she really liked. They let her shoot it, and she loved it. I showed him the 642 and asked what he would do on a trade. He told me he would go 175 dollars. I told him I bet he would. I too would buy them all week long and twice on Sunday for that. I walked out and three days later sold it for $490.

I felt the same way when my lgs offered me $250 for one of my glocks in perfect condition. Apparently that's the going rate for a lgs buying used glocks. The thing that gets me is I know their going to turn around and sell it for about 450. I can handle you making a hundred off me but 200 kind of sticks in the crawl. So I kept it.

I'm glad I did now.
