My buddy wants to trade in his Bushmaster AR-15 that is 3 years old and appx. 500 rounds through it. I might be interested in buying it at a fair price for both of us, so, he suggested going with him when he trades it in and he would sell it to me for what the gun dealer offers him.

The gun is stock with no add ons, there are 2 for sale at my local gun store, 1 is $899 the other is $999.

I am thinking the dealer would offer him $700-$800 for trade, what do you think a fair price would be?

I think $700-800 is more than fair, I doubt a dealer will offer more than 25% less than the new ones cost him.

I wouldn't bet on that. There's a glut of AR's on the market right now, and just today, I bought a brandy new Rock River Elite CAR4 for $925.00 OTD.

I am thinking the dealer will offer less. The gun would bring more in the open market.

yea wally is right the dealers traditionally offer 25% percent of what its worth. so you might get that gun for $250. what a crazy good deal is that haha.

Whatever the dealer offers your buddy with be a SCREAMING deal for you. I'd expect an offer around 50% of the lowest price that gun sells for new. And that dealer might not be selling them for lowest price that gun sells for new.

I'd like to know what dealer takes a gun on trade for 87% of its new price.

i've seen other ar like rra and dpms run under 700 used and used bushy for little over 700. 600-700 is what i would pay for. like mentioned about, add a little and you can get a new one. maybe different brand but nib. or build one for under $500 if you find the right parts.
