Hello all. A fellow gun owner wants to trade his 1940 Turkish Mauser for my 1934 hex receiver Mosin Nagant M91/30.

Normally Mausers cost more than Mosins, but I know nothing about Turkish Mausers.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

I would do it if they're in similar condition. Dollar value is about the same, and Mosins are still available wholesale if you want another one.

Being a Mauser 98 fan I wouldn't take a breath before trading but ,ofcourse, I wouldn't have had a Mosin to trade with.

i'd say its a wash if you have a really nice mosin and some ammo to shoot from it. If you have a so-so mosin, i'd go for it. Seems as though the turk's have been goin for 200ish in my area. Chilean ones about the same.

I would normally jump on it but I have ZERO rounds of 7.92x57.

I got my Mosin from AIM Surplus. I completely refinished the stock and it looks REALLY good. It was a lot of work lightly sanding and many applications of BLO to achieve the look I wanted.

Assuming they are equal in condition, or even if the Mosin is in slightly better condition, I'd take the Mauser. Mauser is a better action and a better rifle and as others stated Mosins are still widely available.

I wish I'd have bought a dozen of those Turkish Mausers when Big 5 was selling them for $50, 7 or 8 years ago.

Definitely a good trade, dollar wise, if they're both in similar condition. Then just save up another $100 and buy another Mosin and you'll have one of each!:)

If the walnut stock looks great and the bore is vg, then trade. I prefer the Turk over any bolt action Mosin myself.

Are you trading ammo, too? I think there's some 8x57 available, but not for the price of 7.62x54R. If you can find ammo, I think it would be a good trade, and as mentioned, you can always get another Mosin. Plus that would give you another project redoing the new Mosin.

I love Mosins and don't have a Mauser, but the Mauser is a better rifle. It comes down to ammo for me.
