So I am at my local shop where I am well known because of all the purchases I have made. I see a black Desert Eagle .357 in the display glass and I tell my guy: "You know, I have always wanted one in .357." He replies: "Well that ones yours then right?" But I am a little strapped for cash at least until September so I tell him just to throw an offer. "I'll trade you my Ruger GP100 and M&P .45 for it."

I have a Hogue grip on the Ruger along with a Hi-Viz front sight and the M&P has 5 mags. So he tells me he would go for the deal along with $200 bucks. He said that his inventory guy really only ordered the Desert Eagle to get attention and he didnt know how long it would take for him to sell it so the deal seemed good.

Now my question is, how many of you would go for this trade? Pros for me are that I would gain a pistol I have desired for a while, its a semi-auto .357, and the mags are cheaper than the M&Ps. Cons are I am giving away two pistols that have been great for me and that I have enjoyed shooting. I have never fired a .357 Eagle, but I have fired the .50 and .44 models and loved 'em. I know that I could easily tame a .357 Eagle and be accurate with it.

So....would you do it and why? If not...why not?

Thanks guys!

Personally I wouldn't do it, but my opinon doesn't really matter much does it?

Seems like you are trading in a lot of value in weapons the dealer can likely turn quickly for a somewhat "niche" weapon that could possibly sit in his case until the next right person walks in the door.

Beside that, I'm not a big fan of the Desert Eagle nor can I concieve taking it out for a full day of shooting (i.e. 500 to 800 rounds minimum).

But again, that's just me.

if you can handle a gun that size there is really no reason to not get the glock 20
ive also heard the desert eagle has problems with all but the stiffest 357 loads

The Desert Eagle is not crap, it isn't just for posers.

It is accurate as a rail gun, generally reliable, and a lot of fun to shoot.

However, while the weight helps control the recoil of the bigger calibers, like the .44 and the .50AE, and serves useful because of this, it is far too much gun for the .357. Plus, while calibers can be switched with a simple barrel change between the other chamberings, the .357 uses its own bolt.

If you want a Desert Eagle, go for it. They make good hunting handguns, and are fun range toys. But don't sell two fine firearms for one. Save up until you can buy one new. Nothing it can do is immediately pressing.

Eh, why not. I've always thought one would be spiffy. If you've always really wanted one, do the trade. I'd try to talk him down a bit on the price after the trade, though--if he wouldn't you're probably better off with what you have.

I wouldn't just because I think the two you have are much more practical.

If the DE is your dream gun, don't let my opinion stand in your way!

I wouldn't give up two guns that have been good to me. Better to figure out a way to get some extra money together, even if it requires patience.

I think a .44 Desert Eagle would be very cool, but I have far more pressing needs, and even if I had the money to burn, my hands are just too small.

If you want it, get it, but don't sell those two guns if you think there's a chance you'll regret it. Most opinions and personal experiences will suggest that sooner or later, we'd regret having gotten rid of two fine guns.

Here's something funny I found related to Desert Eagles:

Everyone is bringing up great points, I am thinking I might keep my 2 pistols. Another point I just discovered, I had interest in firing Hornady's LeverRevolution .357 Flextip
in the Eagle. But if its picky with ammo, I wonder if it would have feeding problems with this ammo. The GP100 loves it.

Well, FWIW ~ I traded off my .44 Ruger Super Blackhawk, a Mosin M44, and some cash for my new .44 DE.

We'll see in time if it was worth it.......you only live once ! ;)

ONE: Is the Desert Eagle (DEagle for you CS geeks) used???

TWO: Which model is it, Mark VII or Mark XIX???

THREE: How much do your two Pistols cost collectively and individually???

FOUR: How much is the shop asking for the Desert Eagle without trade???

I know that your pistols aren't worth, in the commercial world, as much as you bought them for. If I recall you can trade/sell them for about 20% less than original price if not 30% depending on who you talking to. With that said do the math and figure that out. Is the gun shop guy really giving you a deal here??? You are the one that decided to offer, not one, but both pistols. Of course he's going to jump on that. He can probably flip them and get more than what he's selling the Desert Eagle for. Not only that he also requested an additional $200. IMHO I would, at minimum, haggle some more outta this guy especially because you are well known there for your many purchases. He should hook you up. If that doesn't work I would pretty much tell the guy "No Dice, no deal!"

The Mark XIX is $1440.00 on Magnum Research website http://www.magnumresearch.com/Browse.asp?Category=Desert+Eagle:Mark+XIX and the Mark VII is $1049.00 on the same website http://www.magnumresearch.com/Browse.asp?Category=Desert+Eagle:Mark+VII

I am not sure that it matter which caliber it's made for, but it's usually the same price all the way around.

BTW the prices I gave are for the models that seem to only come as the pistol, with 6" barrel, and one mag. all the others are kits with mags, accessories, parts, and a case.

Ps. I agree with the above stated that you, like most gun owners on this site, just might regret getting rid of you pistols. Not only that If you want them back he's not going to just give them back to you for the price he bought them from you. He's going to flip the price and sell them back to you for at least $100 more a piece.

P.p.s. I will vote wfter you have replied to said questions. your answers will give me a better understanding of the situation and will let me give you my valid hoest answer. Thank you

based on the given situation, you should probably try to talk him down from the $200, especially if you are trading two pistols in. OTOH, it might be wiser to wait and save your money, especially if one of those two is a ccw. it's somewhat difficult to effectively hide a 6" DE

No way would I make that deal! I have a M&P, and they are great guns with a lifetime warranty. Save your money and buy a used Coonan 357. You pay twice as much for the "Desert Eagle" name.

Get the DE but don't trade your guns for it. The GP100 and MP45 are both fantastic handguns and if you enjoy them at all they deserve a place in your collection. I personally would just save my money and purchase the DE. Even if you have to save all year long to afford it, its better than selling your guns.

Keep whatcha got. Unless you just really really want that handcannon. I could find far more use for the M&P .45.

USMCDK,

In response to your questions.

1. It's a new pistol, never fired. (other than factory test)

2. It's the Mark VII version.

3. He will give me $375 for the GP100 and $450 for the M&P45, collectively $825 which is fair to me. They are both in excellent condition, the GP100 has firing burns around the front of the cylinder which is common for fired stainless revolvers.

4. The price is $1039.00 for the .357 Eagle.

I have been seriously debating this in my head and so far with everyone's help, I think I might pass and just try to save up to get it. I have a list and there are only 3 more left on it then I am done. M1A, CZ 750, and Desert Eagle .357

No trade

I think that paying for a name really dosen't make much sense and I'm not all that impressed with the DE. I have shot the .357 DE and would much rather have that caliber in a wheel gun myself. My neighbor has a DE in .44 and has had nothing but problems with it...FTE, FTF and the slide has to be tapped into battery a couple times per magazine.

Keep the two you have and if you really want the .357 DE do some searching online for a better deal.....just my .02

If I was in your position, the M&P and GP100 would get way more use than a Desert Eagle. I want a DE some day too, but I think the novelty would wear off fast and regret the trade later down the road..

Thank you for the answers and with that my answer.

:cuss: the trade in, keep you guns and save up the dough. he can always order more... it's not like Magnum Research is going outta business any time soon. Who knows he might even just get a used one in at some point and time and have it for less than $1039.00.

I really do hope that you get what you are looking for but I am one of those here that say :cuss: your dealer and the trade and just save up the $$$ get it then not now. You have enough fire power to stop an assailant with you at this time and can definitely wait it out. We have faith in you and we all stand behind you one houndred percent.

Thanks everyone that posted and polled.

I have decided to keep what I have, here are my two bad boys...

Nice Revolver man! I am not really a fan of the XD design but they grip nice in my hand. I am happy to hear that you stayed with your babies man, I can only imagine what it would feel like to have the regret of giving away a pistol that has done me nothing but an ecellence in it's service. I don't even want to think about it. I would never give up my HK USP45 even if I bought something that was more accurate and reliable, to me of course. I would keep my HK USP45 because it's my first it has memories and a spiritual signature that I have marked it with (DON'T ASK). Giving away that weapon would be giving away a piece of me that I could probably never get back.

Anyways... Good for you my brotha I hope that you are able to save up enough and get that .357 DE I think it will look real nice as a center piece when you take pics of it and your others together.
