It all started witha simple trip to the range ,as usual i take at least three handguns.
I just bought a new house gun ( EAA Windicator 357 4 inch )to try out.
It fired just fine with no poblems ,& after 50 rounds its new home will be on my end table.
But thats not what this thread is about.
On the way in i was looking at some new arrivals to the shop, i had my new gun (EAA) and my gp 100 6 inch and of course my smith 642 witch is my carry gun.
Well a bright shinny new Ruger sp 101 357 caught my eye and i have had my eye on one just like it , did i mention i love Rugers.
So after comparing it side by side to my 642 i asked the shop owner to make me an offer on the smith ,he did $350.00 and that was $100.00 more then i paid for it. He wanted $450.00 for the sp.
So i asked him if i could test fire the Ruger he said ''yes ,no charge"
I blasted away about 25 rounds of 38 spl through it and without a doubt found the felt recoil and accuracy better than my smith, yes its heavier a little larger, but with my past history with Rugers i felt it was worth the trade off.
So now im a proud owner of a new (ANOTHER) Ruger.
My question is, have any of you traded off one of these revolvers for the other?
And if you did were you glade you did? or not?
Be kind Gentelmen, I know smiths are good guns i have a model 10 as well.
I loved my 642 it was a fine revolver for what it was intended for. I will miss it, at least untill i load up some 357's into the sp.;)

I look at the 642 and the SP101 as two different classes of revolver. They both have their place in two different worlds. The 642 is a pocket gun for CCW in my opinion. The SP101 is more of a full service revolver. It really depends on what you need. As long as you are happy with the deal, thats all that counts.

I don't think you could go wrong either way, but if I was in your place I wouldn't have bought the SP-101 until I'd looked at Ruger's new offering - the .38 LCR. :scrutiny: ;)

I look at the 642 and the SP101 as two different classes of revolver.

They're different calibers, sizes and weights. The SP is a compact holster-carry magnum; the 642 is about the ultimate pocket-carry gun, though challenged recently by the LCR.

I have made trades that made me happy, but others might not like. If your happy, no problem. You did trade an apple for an orange, or is it orange for an apple, as folks have posted.

I'm a blinders on Smith fan. But I have Rugers and Browning. I love them. I'll keep my 442 for ccw but the Rugers are just plain cool. Enjoy.
