Got rid of my SCAR-17 and picked up four 1911s today. I got a Springfield TRP Operator w/ full rail which I have lusted over since I first saw one in a gun magazine in high school. Also added a non-railed TRP Operator, a LWT railed Operator and a Dan Wesson XSS. Apparently the XSS became the Pointman 7 or something like that. Not a ton of search results for the XSS. I know that it stands for XS sights and Stainless. I think I did well on the trade. We’ll see how long I keep all of them. I’ve always been more of a Glock and CZ guy, but I’ve been wanting to put some 1911s back in the stable.

I will say this, when you go big, you really go big! Nice quartet of 1911s!

Your 1911 quartet was a very good return for the SCAR 17!

(I’m looking at a Ronin Operator at some point in my future... since I have three .45’s I think I’ll go with a 9mm version.)

Is the DW wearing spalted walnut? Those look amazing!

Stay safe.

Thanks. They are spalted persimmon, actually. Good friend of mine made them for me. He likes to work with local wood, so he’s done some oddball stuff like honey locust, persimmon, cherry, ash and even holly if you can believe that. Those grips were the reason I decided to get back into 1911s honestly.

I just got into the world of nice custom grips, I’ve always been more of a synthetic grip person. I wholly agree that grip panels like those beauties really do instill a lot of pride-of-ownership because they’re all individual and they make handguns pop!

Stay safe.

I had gone quite a long time without any new 1911s having a Colt Combat Commander from Colt's Custom Shop from the late '70s, an Officer's Model ACP, and a Springfield Army M1911A1 which I traded for back in the late '80s. Then some years back I came into some good fortune and decided it was time to break the dry spell and pick up a few new guns. Went to a very well stocked gun shop where the owner also built custom guns and asked him what he thought was a decent buy in a 1911. He said that at that time in his opinion Colt was building some of the best guns that he had seen in a very long time. Tight tolerances on the slide to frame as well as the barrel to slide fit, along with fairly clean and light triggers, were making for a very high quality gun that was still priced well under $1K.

I went with a Colt Government for a range/handload development gun and a Lightweight Government for CCW as I really liked the way it balanced and handled when I tried it out. I was thinking about getting a Government in .38 Super but I ended up going with a Lightweight Commander which I added a 9mm. barrel to for a little more versatility in the ammunition department.

In my opinion, you got the SuperDeluxe end of that trade!
My SCAR had some extras. Geissele trigger, KDG butt stock, Midwest Ind extended rail, 5 mags and some ammo I let go with it. I still came out on the winning end of the trade, but I know the guy I traded with pretty well and he probably didn’t have any more invested in those four pistols than I had in my SCAR.

On a side note, the Dan Wesson seems to be a bit of an odd duck. Can’t find much info on an XSS model. Apparently it was the predecessor to the Pointman 7, but a google search did not turn up much info at all. Apparently there were some prototypes built to try the XS Big Dot sights, which this pistol has, and there were only six of them. These supposedly had some upgraded internals. Surely I wasn’t fortunate enough to end up with one of those. Dan Wesson forum seems kinda dead. May try the 1911 forum to see if I can dig up some info.
