I'm thinking about trading my Bulgarian Makarov+cash for a Keltec P3AT. The guy is asking $450 for the P3AT. I live in California, and Keltec isnt on the DOJ approved list, hence the premium on the price.

My Mak has be reliable since day one and is a fun piece to shoot. I've read up on the Keltecs and they seem to be hit or miss on quality. Am I nuts for thinking of trading my Mak? I know that Maks are drying up, but I've always liked the compactness of the P3AT

$450 for a KelTec? That is one of the most rediculous prices I've heard in a long while. That's a $200 gun. Keep the Mak, it's a better pistol anyway.

I believe I'd prefer to live in Russia rather than Kali. At least in Russia they don't pretend to have freedom.

keltec's are nice guns but IMHO your mak is a better value, if anything he should be giving you $200.00 plus the keltec for the mak.

You sure he didn't mean 2 Kel-Tecs for 450? You should be

able to get a used Glock for that price. I'd run like mad. Why not just buy one for a couple hundred on an auction shipped to your FFL? even with transfer fees and shipping your saving a ton.

keep the mac. for the 1-200 bucks they are worth, they are too good of a gun to just ditch. you will be sorry down the road that you gave up a mac, even if you don't shoot it too often.

As posted above, Keltecs aren't on the CA DOJ's approved list and therefore cannot be bought new through a dealer. The only way to purchase them through a PPT (Private party transfer) from someone who (a) owned it before the implementation of a Cert list (b) Moved to CA from out of state (C) a Law enforcement officer.

The problem with that is it's not on the republic of California's approved list. :what: there fore he can only get a keltec from another "private party" that owned one before they were removed from the list.:banghead:.

That said I own 3 keltec p3at's, 1 first gen, 2 second gen. They are ok little pocket guns but I'm not going to trade a mak for one.

Now if you have a mak in nice shape I might be willing to trade one of my keltec's for it

come see me in Tucson, I'll swap ya a new P3AT straight across  I have several around in my shop, vehicles etc... great lil guns and super reliable (all of mine are second gen) and so small I can clip one in the top of my boot and forget its even there....

The fullsize guns are nice but........ can't always carry one where I can a P3AT ya might even forget ya got it on ya as ya drive home :evil:

As nice as the P3ATs are though they are not $450 guns

If you can carry the Mak with no problem, then it's the better SD gun. If you need the extreme carryability of the Kel-Tec, there's nothing that is as good. If you carry a Kel-Tec, you can find yourself in an SD situation, get through it somehow, then as you're sitting in the hospital or at home, slap yourself on the forehead and say "I forgot I had a gun on me! It was here in my pocket the whole time!"

I pocket carry a P3AT all the time, so I'm not a Kel Tec basher.

I also have 15 Makarovs, so I'm crazy about Maks.

DO NOT get rid of the Mak unless the kids are starving and your wife won't get a second job.

Did that guy that tried to sell the P3AT for $450 have on a mask?

Thanks for helping me out guys. I'm not going to trade my Mak. The guy actually found a buyer for $450 and wasnt going to trade anymore.

P3at's are going for around $250 online. Once you factor shipping and transfer fees, you are at $300 easy for a good retail price.
