I've decided to trade my P229 and I think I'm getting a good deal but just want to run it across some people with a little more knowledge than myself to make sure. The gun I'm trading it on is a Springfield XD9. I've fired one and enjoyed it but I'm not sure on their value. First, my P229 is in perfect shape and is a 40 with an SRT. It was bought completely new about 4 months ago and I don't have any accessories or ammo to include with it. The XD9 is about the same age but it does have a small scratch in the finish on the left side of the slide. It will also be coming with $100 boot, around $120 worth of ammo, and two safariland duty holsters. I've checked prices and the holsters are around $120 each when purchased new.

Am I doing well in this trade? I think I am but my worry is maybe the holsters won't resell for much and I don't really need them.

Trading is often a matter of what you want more. You already spent the money on the Sig, so if you don't care for it, no point in keeping her..

I would consider the Sig to be a more valuable firearm than the XD. Don't get me wrong, the XD is a great gun, but so is the Sig. What do you like better about the XD than the Sig? The reason I ask is it seems like you already invested in the Sig, why not master it before jumping ship?

I've bought guns with holster before and I've never given any added value for them...I've always just considered them gravy as the seller wouldn't be able to use them any longer.

These must be pretty fancy duty holsters for be worth $120 each..unless you are talking about MSRP. Duty holster might crowd $100 and most officers wouldn't paid more than $80 for them if they are new. That makes them worth about $40 each if you get lucky enough to find a buyer.

New XD9s are locally running about $580 OTD, while new 229s are running around $800...so it is a pretty close trade

I wouldn't make that trade. I think selling the Sig in a private sale and then hunting down a used XD would be the best course of action. The holster and ammo are not really sweeteners IMO.

I would keep the SIG as well. Personally I prefer the design and ergonomics of a P229 over that of an XD9. The holsters and the ammo aren't that big of a deal with this trade.

I love my Sig P229

I also like my XDm

They are both wonderful guns

But how are you gonna use it - they are entirely different guns.

One is a DA/SA hammer fired gun -

the other is a SA Striker fired gun.

By the way I might trade a Sig for a XDm model ...

But not for a XD - XD is a less expensive model

IMHO

Thanks for the replies. I ended up declining the trade, and after reading your replies I am glad that I did. Without being able to sell the holsters I would not have got the same value back which is what I was wondering about from the start.

As I was working my way down this thread I was formulating an argument for doing the deal. I am glad you kept the Sig. It is a true battle pistol and my 226 would probably be the last semi auto that I would sell if I was forced to liquidate. Learn to shoot it, and get a couple more Mec-Gar magazines to maximize the round count.
You did well by asking a bunch here on the board before doing the deal. The 24 hour rule worked.
