DESCRIPTION: The shotgun is one of the most under utilized, common firearms found in many personal and law enforcement inventories. It is the most versatile and most powerful weapon deployed in many situations close quarters situations.

The Defensive Shotgun Course #1 is the first in a series of shotgun training courses in response to the public’s need for specific firearm training utilizing the shotgun in defensive situations. This course is oriented toward the shotgun owner who is familiar with the operation of the shotgun and would like more than the basic training utilizing the Shotgun of their choice.

Topics Covered:
* Firearm safety, range rules and procedures
* Shotgun types, sights and individual characteristics
* Basic Operation, components and nomenclature
* Barrel characteristics, differences, uses and selection
* Ammunition characteristic, patterns, types and uses
* Distance considerations and round selection
* Loading, Unloading, slinging techniques
* Carrying techniques, safety considerations during deployment
* Shooting stance and Marksmanship fundamentals
* Shots down range vs. distance - Birdshot, Buckshot and slugs
* Firing on the move, reloading and Malfunction clearances
* Shotgun drills and practical exercise
* Cleaning, storage and firearm safety in the home

The following firearms training topics will be covered:
• Firearms training and basic safety.
• Introduction to the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
• Nomenclature.
• Mechanical operation of the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
• Disassembly / reassembly.
• Function checking the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
• Fundamentals of shooting a rifle.
• Basic gun-handling skills.
• Loading / unloading the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
• Sling use and carry techniques.
• Zeroing iron sights.
• Understanding projectile trajectory.
• Reloading techniques.
• Malfunction clearance techniques.
• Presentation from the low ready / hunt position.
• Presentation from high ready / combat ready.
• Delivering controlled pairs and accelerated pairs for CQB
• Threat assessment and area scanning.
• Shooting positions - standing, squatting, kneeling, sitting and prone.
• Standard drill evaluation.
• Preventive maintenance and cleaning.
• Awareness of exposure to toxic metals and solvents.
Course duration: 1day (8 hours)
Course tuition: $ 125.00
Student requirements: Note pad and pen, firearms training equipment, eye protection, ear protection, baseball type cap,
AR-15 or M-4 type rifle with iron sights, sling and at least 2 magazines, elbow pads, knee pads (optional but suggested) and gun cleaning kit.
(Body armor is optional unless it is required by your agency during firearms training)
Recommended equipment: Rifle magazine carriers, 2 magazines, rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, hydration system, water and clothing suitable for contact with the ground. 22 LR. Conversion kit and magazines.
Ammunition requirements: 50 rounds of 5.56 rifle ammunition (Ammunition is available for purchase upon request) 250 rds of 22LR ammunition, conversion kits available at training

Ammunition must be new manufacture (Federal, Remington, Winchester, etc.)
Absolutely no reloaded ammunition!
