Today I worked at a residence and got to talking with the renter (mostly the wife) about the local politics and found out they moved from CA a short time ago and were pro 2A. This was a major reason they settled here in our state. The thing that got a chuckle from me was the story that they accompanied a coworker of her husband to the larger of the LGS as the coworker had decided to buy another handgun. She said they walked in and the coworker saw something he wanted and asked to buy it. The clerk had him fill out the paperwork (4473) and call it in. Got the proceed, paid for it, and walked out with said handgun, spare 17 round MAG, and a box of complementary ammo. "We took about 20 minutes total and I am amazed as this would have taken about 2 weeks or more and several trips to the local PD and LGS to do it in CA and forget about the 17 round MAG's and any ammo at time of sale." was her comment.

I said "welcome to the free part of the country,:D just don't forget to vote for our side to keep it this way every election.";) After a Q&A session about local elections they are OK on what to vote for. Two more votes for the good I am sure! Well worth the lunch hour invested.

What amazes me is the free box of ammunition. I haven't had that happen in the last 30 years, although it was common at one time. Maybe I should move to Maine.

From the OP

this would have taken about 2 weeks or more and several trips to the local PD and LGS to do it in CA

This is misleading at best.

Its two trips to the gun store which includes picking out the gun, and a 10 day wait to take it home.

Its not "several trips" and never to the "local PD".

None then less.... good luck on the UBC vote coming up. It looks like it may pass according to the Portland Press Herald

A majority of likely voters in both congressional districts said they supported the initiative: 69 percent in the more liberal 1st District and 52 percent in Maine’s more rural, conservative 2nd District.

Maine is about as pro-2A as it gets and I think Q3 is going to tank hard... just like the bear baiting bill did.

And the Portland Press Harold is just another arm of the DNC's propaganda wing that cow-tows to the Cumberland county libs, so I don't trust anything they have to say.

Besides, who the heck talks to telemarketers and pollsters these days? The people I know who have jobs and busy lives just ignore their caller ID or hang up on them. Which leaves only those sitting around all day doing nothing (often those who subsist by sucking the gubment's teets) the only ones the pollsters can find to talk to. Oddly, this demographic leans pretty heavily to the left.... go figure.

Mainiacs are more than just a little bit tired of Mass-h_ _ _s (common expression in these parts, though perhaps not understood or found to be acceptable by other regions of the country) moving in, whining about not having curbside trash collection, driving up taxes with their socialism and then looking down their noses at the culture and people that made this state a great place to live in the first place.

We'll all find out come November. But for sure, there will be crying and complaining whichever side wins/loses.

Good for them! Hope they enjoy their new found "freedom" and exercise their right to buy arms, without undue government interference or delay.

I'm glad you all got permit less carry. Maybe that will eventually help push New Hampshire into the club. Although they probably need a new Governor first.

I go to Vermont about every 3rd summer and always enjoy a trip over to Maine. It's a great state. Those Californians made a wise choice!

I retired in Norfolk, VA from the Navy in 1995 and moved to Florida. I brought with me a Star 9mm 1911 knockoff.
After I had gotten settled in, I called the local Sheriff's Office and asked them how I went about registering my firearm.
The Deputy who answered the phone said, "You wanna do whut?"
I repeated my question and he said, "Oh hell, we don't do that down heah!"
I love Florida!

My mother, who at the time lived in Chicago, once asked me if my guns were "registered". I told her that I COULDN'T register a firearm here and that I wouldn't live anywhere where I needed to.

I do not know. I will ask them when I take them to the Blue Hill RPC to show it to them some time next month.

I like to take my friends to Hussey's General store. That place always amazes them.

I think many gun owners in OR and WA felt the same way, guess they didn't realize how many of their fellow gun owners actually supported the UBC and I suspect Main voters and gun owners will pass this with ease.

^^^^ I agree. I am going to invest EVERY spare moment I can educating anyone that sees this measure as a "common sense" law. There are MANY here that are swayed by the MSM and that anti message.:cuss:

I am not privi to the CA process so was relaying what she explained to me as the way it goes. No matter they sure seem to be happy to be HERE now.

I just hope they left any California politics behind. All too often we see Californians moving to other States....bringing the same liberal/political ideas with them...that ruined their former State of residence to begin with.

Not all of course, some really good people flee California (for good reason) in order to enjoy the freedoms other Californians have relinquished.

You sound offended that someone should make it sound more difficult than it really is to buy a gun in CA. I mean, it's practically the same as in Maine except the waiting period, magazine capacity limit, background checks on ALL sales, a list of "approved" guns, etc., etc..

OP - Glad to hear that the transplants are acclimating well.

Naw.... not offended at all.

I look at this way.
It's either intentionally spreading false info or willful ignorance of the laws the laws they spoke about.

Either way, false info spreading doesn't help anyone or anything.
