i need to bring a black powder 50 cal. rifle and two 1851 44 cal. revolvers from indiana to wisconsin how ever i was told they need to be disassembled in my vehicle during transport through illinois they will be in the trunk and unloaded always

As long as they are unloaded and secured in the trunk I don't think you will have any issues. Perhaps IL is worse than CA, but not sure how it could be. Also I forget the name of the law, but I believe you have some federal protection as long as you don't stop over in IL.

For transport it's exactly like a modern gun. Unloaded and locked in the trunk or a locking case if you don't have a trunk...and pass through/don't stop even for gas if you have a choice. The definition of loaded may be different (e.g. in California it is only loaded if there are caps/primers in placee but hopefully that doesn't matter.

Illinois is far worse than CA. In Illinois you need a special card even to handle a gun - including black powder guns. A dealer can't show it to you unless you have a FOID. An put-of state person can bring a handgun for personal use into CA without any paperwork...not IL.

From the Illinois FAQ document cited above:
Removal of percussion cap or removal of prime powder from frizzen pan with frizzen open and hammer all the way down or removal of prime powder from flashpan and wheel un-wound or removal of prime powder and match with match not lit shall constitute an unloaded muzzleloading firearm." (17 Ill. Admin. Code, Sec 660.30)

So if you were thinking of driving around with your wheel lock or matchlock pistol in Condition 1 then you'd better think twice about doing it in Illinois, mister! :D

Just don't drive stupid and draw attention to yourself. I just drove from TX to MI with 12 rifles and 5 pistols and about 8000 rounds of ammo in the truck. I am surprised I did not make the national news. The guns were not able to escape and cause mayhem because they were locked in a stack-on cabinet. Just drive up to western MI and take the ferry across to WI. I think it is still running....chris3
