i thinking of getting a second shotgun for trap as for fun shoot about 2500 a year for fun when weather is nice at local trap range would like to stay around 500 dollars any sugestions

I've shot an 870 for trap and it worked just fine. You dont need a fancy gun, just something that fits well and has at least a modified choke. Check out the for sale boards of the local range if you want to try and find a deal or shoot what you have and spend the money on ammo and fees.

Go to your local gun clubs of the trap/skeet variety. If you come off as eager, polite, and respectful, most every shooter will allow you to try their gun for some shots or even a full round. Find a type that fits. For American trap, you are only worried about 1 shot (doubles excepted), so anything from a used pump to a trap-specific Ljutic or Kreighoff will do the job. Where I live, there are always guns for sale listed on the club's bulletin board

Good luck!

I'm very active in the Clays games, especially Trap and I can tell you, without hesitation, that the best bang for the buck is a Browning BT99.

Buy one and don't look back. If you ever sell it I will bet you that you will make a profit. They can be had in the 750 to 900 dollar range and are well worth it over any $500 gun.

I actually have a BT99 and its my go-to gun for single shots in anything. 32" barrel with extended chokes and an adjustable comb. Also has a mercury recoil reducer in it to bring the weight up to 9.5 lbs. Its a very fine shotgun.
