I have a Winchester 1200 with a MOD choke, 28in barrel. I never have shot Trap. Will this work ok shooting a round of trap? I use this as my Pheasant gun and Quail gun normally.

Particularly from the 16 yd line, modified will work ok. though it may be a bit too open from handicap distances. To help alleviate that, shoot #8's or even 8 1/2"s for a denser pattern
When i shot competition trap years ago, I finally found an improved modified to be the ideal choke. its about half way between mod and full and it'd eat up targets even back from the 27 yard line.

just be sure to pattern your gun with various shot sizes and loads so you know what load and shot size shoots best. Good patterns is what breaks targets.

I shot my first round of trap with a Winchester 1300, mod choke and 28" barrel. You will be fine from the 16 yard line.

You may want to raise the comb of your 1200 because field guns tend to shoot flat, trap guns shoot high. If you raise the comb of your stock ~ a quarter-inch or so. A slightly elevated comb raises the gun’s point of impact, allowing you to see the target instead of having to cover it up with the barrel of your gun to hit it. I used a piece of foam sleeping pad and an old buttstock ammo carrier to raise the comb on my 1300.

Good luck but beware, trap can become an addiction very quickly:)

Yep it will do fine for you.
Do yourself a favor....watch and learn. Watch some veteran shooters for a round or two. Learn the shooters etiquette of gun handling, when to mount your gun, when to load, when NOT to load, when to call for a bird, not to do anything to interfere with anyone else's fun etc, etc, ..... head on the stock . eye on the rock . follow through like your shootin it with a garden hose.....have fun.

Yep.

And be very careful.....Trap is addictive. First it is a round or two with your field gun. And then......maybe a longer barrel, another round, try some reloads, reload your own, maybe another gun. Maybe a different choke. A "B" gun perhaps.....hmmm....a "P" gun?

Trap guns tend to have a high comb, making them shoot high. This is because the bird is on the rise when you should be pulling the trigger. Placing a pad/device on the butt stock may help scores. #8 shot works. s7_220711_999_01?labelKey=label&&id=T85Qz2&wid=379&hei=281&fmt=jpg.jpg

I shot the same setup in a Trap league with a Rem 870 pump some 20+ years ago. Like they said, not the -ideal- gun, but good enough to get the 2 trophies on the shelf behind me. ;-)
When we switched to skeet it =did= make the doubles interesting!

What spottedpony said: Get a slightly tighter choke. That's the most important thing.

Building up the stock is a judgement call and not totally necessary, IMO. I shot trap a lot with a Remington 1100 that required me to cover the bird with the barrel in order to be on target. It's not a problem as long as you resist the impulse to pick your head up to "see over the barrel." Keep your head down, follow the bird, catch up to it, pull the trigger as the barrel covers the bird, and don't stop your swing. You will hit.
