I've got a chance to buy a couple of Winchester Trappers (NIB) with I believe 16 inch barrels. One in .357 and one in .44mag. What kind of range can I expect? I'm a pretty fair shot for an old country boy. Is center mass on a man sized target at 100 yrds to much to expect?

Thanks in advance

An adult torso, reasonable. Deer hunting accurracy, pushing it at 100 yds. In my experience pistol caliber carbines shine out to about 65-75 yards. I've wondered if the Trapper moniker emphasized convienence for personal protection running one's trapline. Before the NFA they came in 14" and even 12".

Mmmm. I would disagree with waidmann. I have used my 45 Colt Trapper in leveraction silhouette. The rams at 200 yards fell just fine. Mine groups in the two to three inch range at 100 yards. This is of course offhand.

I'd expect 3-4 MOA (5 shot group, 100 yards, benched, decent sights) with loads it likes.

2 MOA, offhand, 16" bbl w/ factory sights, 5 shots at 100 yards?

I'd pay to see that.

I;ve got a marlin lever gun that will shoot just over 1" at 100 yards. It is in 45-70, but I don't know why a 357 or 44 would do much worse?

nullcone,

Please don't misunderstand, that shooting is from the bench. I'd love to be able to shoot two MOA offhand!!! I'd pay double to do that! :)

I also have replaced both sights. The rear is a peep mounted on the wrist. Other than that the rifle is factory. It shoots better than I and has the power to knock over those heavy rams at 200 too. I do love it.

I had one in 44 mag and 45 colt. the 44 mag was a 2.5 inch gun at a 100 and the 45 colt would do an honest 1.5 inch with loads it likes.
