I have inlaws in both places and we were notified y'day that they have stage 4 cancer. Not a good day for my wife.

We will have to soon travel to both places from AZ. We have CCW for AZ but I need a quick answer on how to transport and carry in both places. Thanks for your help.

What Frank said.

And for gosh sakes, don't take mags with over 10-round capacity into California, and avoid the sketchy-looking rest areas off the highways, especially after dark.

Your guns must be inaccessible in your vehicle and unloaded.

Your AZ CCW permit is worthless in CA.

How to transport in CA straight from the AG.

Pistol, right? No mags over 10 rounds. No threaded barrels.I wouldnt bring a CA defined assualt pistols... or assualt rifles for that matter.

It may boil down to not carrying at all.

There are also vax and mask issues to look into before departing. The localities involved which do or don't change almost daily. That is likely a much bigger minefield of conflicting authorities and overreach worse than the old patchwork of no carry in most states.

Oregon is a 2A friendly state, but doesn’t recognize any other states CCW permits (correct me if I’m wrong) …. but good luck in California, in this situation, relay back on your situational awareness training. Avoid the hood and homless!

California:
Reading the law will give you a headache.
This site explains it well:

I recommend you lock handgun(s) in a container, even if in the truck (locked trunk is considered a locked container)
You cannot buy ammo in California but can bring ammo if your destination is not your future residence. The laws for ammunition purchase are written to govern residents, not travelers. I would lock ammo in a different container. I have gun cases that have locking zippers. I lock guns in one half, ammo in the other and then put them in the trunk.
A loaded magazine in the same “container” with the gun can be construed to being the same as having a loaded concealed weapon.

I lived in Oregon before moving back to Hell. Their laws are much more lenient, but I do not believe they honor the AZ CCW Permit.
