Traveling across the USA by car, with firearms

Not to be overly cautious but dropping a chamber flag in the guns isn't a bad idea. That way if you are pulled over and the police dg through your stuff they can immediately tell that the guns are unloaded.

Also as mentioend before wher on the East Coast are you heading? PA isn't bad, NY, NJ are and MD is getting close to NJ standards.

Guns cased and locked, and out of reach.
Ammo in a separate container, meant for ammo, and preferably "away" from the firearms.

Just took a class for the Utah CC permit. The teacher was a lawyer. This was his recommendation when crossing state lines to stay legal everywhere. If you stop for more than "travel activities" like gas and food, and plan to carry, then check the local state laws before strapping a gun on.

There are multiple smartphone apps that catalogue the different state's laws. They are helpful.

Reasons to get a valid CCW/carry license.....

I'd add that to obtain a valid CCW permit or carry license isn't a bad idea, even if you rarely carry concealed or choose not to open/conceal carry(depending on your state's gun-carry laws).
Obtaining a carry permit/license will allow you to legally carry it in the states that share reciprocal agreements. It also demonstrates that you went "above & beyond" to get firearm safety training or showed concern for learning the legal aspects of carrying a loaded firearm.

Obtaining a valid carry license isn't complicated or expensive in most states now.
My state expedited the entire process to the point where a applicant can get a concealed license the same day with a scheduled appt. ;)
I did my own application process & turned in all the forms/fingerprint cards. I got my CCW license in about 21 days.
The application process used to take 3mo.

Make sure you hit VT., we like guns and visitors. Just don't like silencers.:banghead:

Don't Get pulled over, and if you do, Don't give them a reason to search your vehicle, and Don't have it easily visible ....

While some states may/may not have the same gun laws ,they do have caveats particular to that state.

Getting gun laws/regulations by committee is not the way to go. It`s on you to know the laws/requirements. :)

Easy to find ..................Google.

No handguns or mags that can hold more than 10 rounds in NY. ESP. NYC. Get a UT non resident permit it covers a lot of states for $60. NY isn't one of them. Would advise against NJ and MA too.

Me personally, if I was visiting New Jersey I would leave the guns home. I would avoid passing through that state altogether if carrying guns.
.

Are you the type to go 20+ mph over the limit while throwing your empty beer bottles out the window?
WAY too much unnecessary fear and paranoia
Drive normally follow the laws and FOPA requirements and enjoy your trip
(I'm doing that right now- cut across western MD into PA without even seeing a cop let alone being stopped stripped search etc.

NE Pennsylvania, western NY....

Anyone(armed or not) might drive straight into a PA state police or LE roadblock or check-point due to the massive man-hunt for the violent fugitive who is still on the loose. :uhoh:
If you are on the main roads or even some county/rural areas in the section of PA, NJ or NY you might get pulled over.
The accused cop killer is deep in the forests but he may surface or try & flee PA.

Be alert & be careful. ;)
