Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Free import by adults only of:
600 cigarettes or 60 cigars or 1 lb. of tobacco;
2 bottles of alcoholic beverages (alien non-residents only);
1 bottle of perfume or perfumed water or Eau de Cologne;
Gifts not exceeding the value of YER 100,000. per adult passenger (provided the items are of a non-commercial character, including clothing, toys, tape recorder, 14" television set and non-sophisticated camera);
Gold ornaments (women passengers only) weighing up to 350 grams.
Additional Information on regulations::
Prohibited are firearms, illegal drugs, obscene books and magazines, and all products of Israeli origin.
Export regulations::
Passengers are advised to declare and register any other valuable items of commercial character, which they would like to re-export; otherwise such items will be liable for confiscation and/or payment of Customs duty.
Crew members customs regulations::
Same regulations as for passengers apply.
Pets::
Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate and an import permit from the Veterinary Office, Dept. of Agriculture, Yemen Rep. Yemen Airways allows pets weighing up to five kilos to be carried in cabin provided carried in a specified and odourless cage without liability for injury or death of pet(s). For other airlines check before travelling.
Import of birds, including those used for decorative purposes, and their products is not allowed unless approved by the local authorities.
Baggage Clearance regulations::
Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Yemen Rep., provided this is an international airport.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Yemen Rep.
Baggage of crew is cleared through a separate Customs counter.
Airport Embarkation Tax
No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
Currency rules
Currency Import regulations:
Importing the local currency (Yemeni Riyal-YER) is prohibited:
however, residents of Yemen Rep. up to YER 2,000.-
No restrictions for foreign currencies. Amounts exceeding USD 3,000.- or equivalent should be declared on arrival.
Currency Export regulations:
Residents may export up to YER 2,000.- (Yemeni Riyal - YER) and up to USD 3,000.- or equivalent of foreign currency, per passport. In case of staying abroad for medical treatment up to USD 4,000.- is allowed.
For non-residents exporting the local currency is prohibited. Foreign currencies should not exceed the amounts imported and declared.
