OK, first I will say that I have used the search function and have not found a specific answer, and would really appreciate some advice here.
I am traveling from Florida to N.C., then to Michigan and back to Florida. I do NOT have my CWL yet (will actually be in the mail while driving ) and would like to have some useful access to it while driving. Currently in Florida (without a CWL), it is legal to have a loaded firearm in your car if it is in a secure place like a console, glove box or other "secure" area that it not immediately accessible.
One of my concerns is that FOPA 1986 seems to refer to shooting events. What if I am just traveling to see family? Does it still apply?
I am aware of FOPA 1986, but the idea of having my pistol in the trunk and locked the whole trip really sucks. It will be great if I can convince the BG to give me just a minute while I get into two separate boxes in my trunk. That being said, I intend to obey the law (again, if only we could rely on everyone else to do that) and comply, but how do I find out what states I am required to lock it up in.
What I am asking is what states do I actually need to put it in the trunk and what states is it OK to have in the glove box? Of course I am not asking you to answer for me, just how to go about finding this for myself. Is there a website anywhere?
Thanks in advance. The states I will be traveling through are
GEORGIA
SOUTH CAROLINA
NORTH CAROLINA
TENNESSEE
KENTUCKY
OHIO
INDIANA
MICHIGAN
