Gents,

I have a Va CWP and will be driving through Kansas and Colorado and home through Minnesota. There's no reciprocity. Where/how must I keep the gun in the car? Can I overnight with it in my motel?

I'm no lawyer, so that out of the way...

Generally speaking in this situation the gun needs to be fully unloaded, kept separate from the unloaded magazines and locked in a case at the furthest point from the driver...trunk or hatch. Some states require a LEO to be notified of firearms in the car if pulled over, so check with state law first.

As for staying overnight, I don't know. It's somewhat of a grey area. None of those states listed are gun-unfriendly, unlike various eastern states.

In Colorado you can have your hand gun loaded and anywhere concealed within the vehicle as long as it is not on your person unless you have a valid CCW. You do not need to inform LEO if stopped that you have it.

Other states I am not sure on their regs.
