I'm going to Columbus from IL for work next week and was thinking about bringing a revolver to do a little practice one or two evenings while I was there. Anyone know how that would work for me in OH as an out of state person? Also, what about traveling through IN?

Any suggestions on good ranges to the north of Columbus?

Thanks

There is no provision in the Indiana handgun law for "travelling" for either residents or non-residents. There is an exception for "moving" though, but I don't think what you are doing counts as "moving."

If you have a handgun license from any of the 50 states, it is valid in Indiana, and you have no worries.

If not, unload it and lock it in a pistol case, and lock it in the trunk. <--- this legal advice is worth exactly what you paid for it; you should call the Indiana State Police and ask them.

As it stands right now there is no way for someone who does not have a CCP to have a pistol loaded or unloaded in there car by state law. Because of conflicting state laws you need to follow the federal law for transportation of a handgun in Ohio if you don't have a permit.

"Much of the problem with Ohio’s law regulating firearms in motor vehicles stems from the fact that two different statutes regulate this conduct. Revised Code § 2923.12 (carrying concealed weapons) and Revised Code § 2923.16 (improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.)" READ MORE HERE

I should add that "technically" if you have it in your car, and you are not "moving" and you do not have a licence to carry a handgun from your state, "technically" you are committing misdemeanor or felony (if you have a prior) unlawful possession of a handgun.

Kurt, put the firearm in a case, and best to put it in your trunk. Keep ALL ammo separate (not in the same case) from the gun. You are not supposed to be able to access it without having to get out of the vehicle.

Blackwing Shooting Center west of the city of Delaware is an awesome range. It's on Rt. 36, about 3 miles west of Delaware.

Flying into Colombus with Bullseye pistol equip.

Flying into Colombus, Ohio with 1911 and ammo plus box for Camp Perry weekend. I guess I will just check to make sure the TSA or airlines haven't stolen it and then put it in the trunk and head for Camp Perry. Not going to be loaded until they call us to the firing line.

Brother, have the states and the feds screwed up gun laws.
