Tried 1911 9mm Yesterday

Last night, I thought I would put a 9mm 1911 Wilson Combat (I mainly wanted to try a 1911 in 9mm) up against my Glock 19 9mm to see if the crisp single action trigger made any difference. The 1911 in 9mm is easy to shoot well like the 45 1911's...to me easier than the Glock. I was able to shoot out to 25 yards with the 1911 with ease and shoot fist size groups. The Glock is more difficult due to the longer trigger pull (even with a Glock 4.5lb connecter and Glock 17 trigger). It seems I can also grip the 1911 9mm better too because of the thinner girp. I have small hands. What is a good 1911 9mm that is more affordable than the Wilson. No way I can afford that. Are the Springfields good quality? I am thinking about selling the Glock and mags to put towards a 9mm 1911 to use at the range and as a house gun. Reliability is important. Thanks.

My next pistol purchase will be a M1911 chambered in 9mm, mainly for range and IDPA use. I currently use a Glock G34 but the length of pull and the reset is it's real drawback. Now I have to decide between a Wilson, Nighthawk, Les Baer, or cut cost and consider S&W, STI, SIG or S&W. SIG and S&W are really not 1911s they have external extractors, but they work. Perhaps a Dan Wesson Guardian, or the discontinued Pointman 9mm, still have enough left over for a rifle and a shotgun. Probably the least expensive 9mm 1911 is the STI Spartan, next would be the STI Trojan. The CZ and EAA crowd ( I'm a fan of CZ) may chime in but the 1911 trigger is much better. The Springer Loaded in 9mm would be a good choice but probably pushes $1200, about middle of the road on price. I like my Springer longslide .45acp.

STI Spartan 9mm will be available sometime this month. Frame and Slide are Armscor but the internals are all STI. About $650 I have one one on order from Brazo's.

If the nicer trigger is all your after, there are other 9mm options.
CZ 75B SA (single action)
Witness Match or even one of the fancier ones (Stock II maybe).

I just bought a SA Loaded in 9mm, so far I've liked it and 500 rounds later no problems. It is also my first autoloader so I am not as familiar with them.

I bought an EMP about a week ago and it's terrific. I nearly purchased a stainless kimber target 9mm 1911 as it was really a beautiful and great to hold piece. I have unfortunately read of some current common problems with it. I also like the Springfield 9mm 1911, hear it's reliable but not that great as to accuracy. It certainly has a good price relative to the Kimber or EMP.

Do plenty of research and I think you'll enjoy whatever 9mm 1911 you get.

I LOVE my 9mm Springfield, but it isn't a standard production gun - I waited about a year, and it wasn't cheap...

I was just looking and if I picked up a Colt 1911 in 38 Super, I could get a Colt 9mm barrel and switch between the two calibers. The Colt 1911 38 Supers are actually reasonably priced...roughly 750-800 bucks. I'm guessing you might need another spring to swap between 9mm and 38 super and possibly mags because 9mm is shorter than 38 Super but that's about it. I have a buddy that reloads and would like to get into reloading...so that could make 38 Super a fun cartridge..and when I don't want to reload use the cheap 9mm ammo from Wal Mart.

The Springfield EMP may be just what you need, perfect size for someone with smaller hands and one of the best triggers out there. A little pricy but a fantastic gun. And the smaller size is a little better for concealed carry.

I've seen the Taurus 9mm at our local gun shop, the also have the Taurus 1911 in 38 super. They are out there you just have to look hard.

9mm 1911 is great. I have the Baer. The new S&W looks good.I have a S&W 1911PD Commander. I view them as real 1911s with external extractors. I like the looks of the SA, STI and Dan Wesson as well. I was about to order the STI when this Baer popped up. Couldn't resist.

I have a Springfield Loaded that I just traded and a S&W Pro Series and a Para p18 hi-cap 9mm 1911.

The Springfield loaded is good shooter, very accurate, nice trigger, easy to see sights, stainless steel. For the price it is hard to beat.

The S&W Pro Series is on a whole 'nother level. The slide feels like it is on ball bearings. It is an awesome gun, and it has no front cocking serrations which I personally would whether not have. It was about $400 more than the SPringfield.

The Para P18 is a double stack 1911 style pistol. It holds 18 +1 and is set up for competition with a nice fiber optic sights. This gun was more rough out of the box and took some poloshing and TLC to get it running, but it does run great now. The grip thicker, if you have problems with a G19 or G17 you will have trouble with the size of the grip on this one.

I just ordered a Springfield Custom Carry 9mm 1911 from thier custom shop. 8-10 months wait, but I think it will be worth it.

Kimber also makes the Aegis line. Ive seen them for around $1100 or so.

That being said the STI Spartan 9mm for $650 will be a steal and if you were on a budget of less than $1500 I would probably opt for that one and spend the extra money on ammo, reloading equipment, ect. If more than $1500 budget, order a Springfield custom carry if you do not mind the wait.

I have a STI Trojan in 9mm with over 6,000 trouble free cast bullet reloads through it. It's my steel plate pistol. The fit and finish is excellent but the blued finish will show wear. That's not a problem for me as I bought this pistol to shoot and kind of like the "patina" of a worn, blued gun. I like this pistol so much that I'm considering sending it in to have it chromed in a satin finish (but don't really want to be without it now that plate shooting season is almost here).

I really like the high cut trigger guard and "high grip" grip safety. I've shot a couple of Springfield 1911 9mm's (and owned two 45 Springer's) and am glad I bought the STI because of the higher grip I can attain and the quality. I think that Brazos and Dawson still have these for around $1,000. That's lots of money but I'm glad I bought it.

This is why, when I carried a Glock, I longed for a 1911 trigger. Now that I have a 1911, I don't pine for the Glock at all.
